Patrick (p-m-k) shares his journey to acquiring a platinum A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 reference 101.025, a model he affectionately nicknames the 'Stealth Lange 1.' His decision to opt for the original movement over the technically superior newer caliber offers valuable insights into the nuanced preferences of seasoned collectors. This article delves into the specific 'geek' reasons behind his choice and the community's appreciation for this understated horological masterpiece.
Dear Lange community, after several months on the hunt, I am happy to share I finally took the plunge and acquired a Platinum Lange 1 (ref 101.025).
I was debating a lot whether to go with the original model/movement or new model/movement. I opted finally for the original for several “geek” reasons including winding feeling, bezel proportion and the fact it was the… original. Those reasons overweighted the fact that the newer movement is technically (and chronometrically) superior.
It wears its nickname “stealth” very well as it flies under the radar (at least to 99% of people) – an important watch picking criteria for me. I also directly "had to" order a Loupe System (long overdue) to immerse in the movement. Now let's hope there are enough upcoming rainy days to spend scrutinizing the watch!
Thanks for those that have chimed in during the past months! I wish you all Merry Xmas and happy holidays!
Attached a picture from Lucerne, Switzerland where I am spending this year's Xmas period.
Best, Patrick

The A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 reference 101.025 pairs the manufacture's most iconic design with its most prestigious case material: platinum 950. This is the Lange 1 elevated to its most rarefied expression. The rhodium-finished dial takes on a cool, silvery-blue tonality that speaks to the restrained elegance platinum demands, while the dense, weighty case -- noticeably heavier than its gold counterparts -- communicates exclusivity without ostentation. Only those who know will recognize the subtle difference, and that discretion is entirely the point.
At 38.5mm, the platinum Lange 1 wears with the same refined proportions as every member of the 101 family, but the heft of the case transforms the experience on the wrist. Inside beats the caliber L901.0, A. Lange & Söhne's hand-wound masterwork with 72 hours of power reserve. The movement architecture is a study in precision: the outsize date mechanism uses two separate discs -- a units ring and a tens cross -- to create the oversized date display that has been widely imitated but never equaled. Twin mainspring barrels ensure stable amplitude throughout the extended power reserve.
Reference 101.025 occupies a special position in the Lange hierarchy. Platinum has always been the metal reserved for the most discerning collectors, those who value substance over flash. The rhodium dial's cool palette against the naturally grey-white case creates a monochromatic sophistication that is unmistakably modern, even as the movement within carries forward traditions Ferdinand Adolph Lange established in the hills of Saxony in 1845. This is a watch for those who understand that true luxury whispers.
Not a bad place for spending your Christmas period. I think you can see the Chronoswiss production facility at the outside. Walk in with your stealth when Chronoswiss open on a day, maybe the watchmakers have a holiday and are staring at the outside of the Lange facility in Glashütte Germany. Mary Xmas.
That, indeed, is a stellar stealth watch; unknown to the uninitiated, and a major horological masterpiece for those in the know. I had no idea that the Lange 1 was offered in platinum in more than one reference (the so called “Darth”). Good to know! Wear it in good health, and seasons greeting to you . Hussam
Inspiring photo! Will wear my Lange 1 yellow gold in the new year. I also have the original version. Enjoy Luzern
I too like a stealthy watch — but actually, unless it is a Rolex, nobody “sees” my watch anyway! Are the hands platinum or white gold?
It's definitely not stealthy on this website! An incredible watch that's well appreciated here. Outside of this website, it's very stealthy!
Which Loupe Systems did you get, 6x or 10x?
