Henke's recent forum post on A. Lange & Söhne platinum case scratches sparked a vital discussion among collectors. His apprehension about polishing, a common concern, opened a dialogue on maintaining the pristine finish of luxury timepieces. This article synthesizes community insights, offering valuable perspectives on platinum case care and A. Lange & Söhne's specific refinishing techniques.
I must have either scuffed this area (bottom right lug edge) by knocking it against something or wiped a bit too vigorously with a contaminated microfiber cloth - I don't normally care about microscratches but this is a bit much, as it is visible under regular lighting.
Should I ask for a polish at the next service, or is there an easier solution? It's about time and I've noticed the amplitude is sometimes a bit weak. Reading everything on the forums makes me a bit apprehensive about the whole polishing process.

Lange does not lose case shape with repolish supposedly due to their laser welding, but I am not sure I would bother sending a watch in ahead of normal service time just for a polish. Service can take quite some time, especially for more complicated watches.
polishing cloth, then reassess.
I had similar marks on my 1815 Platinum Sax-O-Mat and when I sent it for service via ALS Boutique in Singapore it came back a few months later looking like a brand new watch! No signs of any loss of material due to their laser treatment. Wonderful. Fast forward to now: it has numerous marks again from daily use. So in short: I would not send it purely for the case but wait till it needs a proper service. Hope this helps, Jan
I have no platinum experience. But i have stainless steel experience. Normally 316L i guess. With cape cod you can do much with stainless steel. But 100% new condition i did never get the scratches away. A top AD who deliver an undamaged watch is in my opinion the best to have. It is hard to find them. It is easier for me to find a top notch watch. Live with it is a no go. So there must come a solution for this problem. In my opinion a good AD change your watch for a brand new peace, and sell th
I feel confident the result should be such an improvement that you will avoid sending it for real polishing. Try and let us know 😉
I guess I never thought of it, but can this process be done for PM watches too?
