AllThingsWatches shares his successful quest to find a matching A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Automatic with an anthracite dial for his wife, complementing his own Timezone. This post highlights the challenges of locating rare dial and metal combinations, celebrating the joy of a shared passion for horology and the beauty of a perfectly paired collection.
Hello everyone, I acquired my A. Lange & Sohne Timezone Rose Gold Anthracite back in late 2012 and just love it. I just have a thing for rose gold and grey dials. However my wife also fell in love with it so from that point on I was on the hunt!
A few issues that made this a really challenging piece to find. First she wanted a Rose Gold Lange, okay easy enough. But then she wanted the anthracite dial and the big date but the Lange 1 case was too big for her.
The only option? Saxonia automatic! So the quest began and I put all my feelers out there. I was able to find a few saxonias but never with the anthracite dial. Even looking all over the internet on various watch forums I couldn't find a single post besides references from past SIHH shows.
Not 1 collector that posts had this watch. This was the same for sales archives.....nothing!
Then 1 day 2 weeks ago I had dinner with a friend and he told me of a place where to find it. Was it too good to be true? For the moment yes because the reference he had was the version without the date. So I was bummed but decided to just give the dealer a call.
Low and behold they actually had the version I was looking for. What makes it better is that this watch is Brand New with full warranty! Needless to say I received the watch and my wife is over the moon with her first Lange. So here she is in all her glory. These watches make a perfect pair!

A Saxonia Automatix with the Sax-O-Mat movement is a superb choice, more desirable than the central rotor version. Congrats, I understand your wife... because I also would be happy to have this watch on my wrist! Fx
for a great RG+Grey dial combination. I was talking about the old saxonias lately as I like them really much. Here you found the big date with the micro-rotor and the elegance of a Lange. Congratz to her. Cheers, Mark
It's the perfect pair!! The Saxonia is super gorgeous in that combination!
RG and grey dial......well done, impressive. Mo
And how nice are you to your wife! Do wear them both, in the best of health always! Tschuss Stephen
Congratulations to both of you on both watches! :-)
