Excited to finally add the CK 859 to my collection! I made my initial inquiry exactly one month ago on March 9th:
Some of you may be thinking, “Wait a minute. It was unveiled on March 25th. How did you know about this piece before the embargo was lifted? ” Luckily, thanks to a “Bahston” watch chat group, a member posted this Instagram photo back on March 9th:
With this photo, obtaining this piece became my obsession. I reached out to Art (Dr. No) to verify if he had any “intel” on this piece. He thought it was another Beijing Olympic / China only piece. I was devastated! After regaining my composure, I decided to go with my gut and reach out to the Omega Boutique to explicitly express my strong desires for this piece and to take my money! They stated they knew nothing about this piece. A few days later there was another Instagram photo;
Then, there was a thread initiated on another forum. With all this information, my obsession turned to identifying everything from the name, the size specifications, the movement, and the price. I comprised an email with all these details I had obtained and sent it to the OB reemphasizing that I wanted this piece. Some of the OB’s staff were traveling to Miami that weekend to see the novelties. The following Tuesday, March 15th, I received confirmation that I was on the reservation list along with a wrist shot. But they stated that they had no ideas on delivery times. With that, I was expecting a time between May and June.
I’ve been in Kansas City since Sunday on a consulting analysis assignment. On Tuesday, I was surprised, yet thrilled when KCLQMULKU posted the arrival of his piece. Approximately two hours later, I received the call from the OB that my piece had arrived! I was scheduled to fly direct back to Boston last night. The plan was to head down to NYC on Saturday to take delivery of my piece. But then my flight was cancelled. I decided to creatively take advantage of this by rescheduling my return flight through LaGuardia. So, this cancellation worked out to my benefit!
With today’s crazy environment, we all know it’s not easy being a watch collector. My frustration or anger can get the best of me occasionally with the treatment one receives from some of these brands as Raymond (Clueless_Collector) and others have stated. In fact, one of my critical lessons learned is that one must establish a relationship with a brand’s boutique if you expect to obtain any of these sought-after pieces. Omega respects watch collectors and has restored my faith that this passion, while challenging, can be enjoyable!
