HSTE's 2000th post offers a deep dive into a truly exceptional timepiece: the Omega Speedmaster 105.012-63 A.C.P. This article highlights why this particular reference holds such a special place in vintage Speedmaster collecting, focusing on its unique dial customization and rarity. HSTE shares his personal insights into what makes this 'Reserve du Patron' watch so significant.

Well, I know: 2000 posts is the quantity that my friend Alkiro would manage to post in - say - 14 days or so. But to me, 2000 is a lot, and hence, somehow special. As "a rusty watch guy" and a bit "old school" perhaps, I though this post should be a bit special, i.e. the watch that I show should be a bit special.

As you might know, vintage Speedmasters are a bit of an anchor theme in my collection and serious collecting started off with Speedmasters (luckily.......). And among my Speedmasters, the "A.C.P." holds a special place.

1) the "A.C.P." print on the dial: as far as I read the literature, this is the only time that a client-customization was printed on the dial in the Omega factory. My understanding is that the other "double-signed" dials (i.e. "Meister" and "Tiffany & Co") were printed outside of the Omega factory.

2) the dial is - in the Moonwatch-Only typology a "B1-No T". It went into production shortly before the mandatory "T" came into force and is hence very rare as it had a very short production run

3) the 105.012 model was the first reference where the "Professional" started to appear on the dial in spring 1964.

4) the 105.012 model was the first reference where the movement was housed in the asymetrical case, starting in Q1 1964

Back to the A.C.P. model: it was the Automobile Club of Peru who ordered 50 examples of this 105.012-63. And - again according to our friends of "Moodwatch Only" - fewer than 10 have been spotted to date. I hence guess that this level of rariy qualifies the tag: "Reserve du Patron".

Cheers, HSTE

About the Omega Speedmaster Ref. CK2998

The Omega CK2998 is a chronograph model recognized for its robust design and functional aesthetic. It belongs to a lineage of chronographs that established a distinct visual identity for the brand, characterized by a clear and legible dial layout. This reference is notable for its early adoption of a tachymeter scale on the bezel, a feature that would become a hallmark of many subsequent sports chronographs.

This reference features a 39 mm stainless steel case, housing the manual-winding Caliber 321. This movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a Hesalite crystal and offers a water resistance of 60 meters. The fixed tachymeter bezel is a key design element, framing a black dial.

The CK2998 holds interest for collectors seeking early examples of Omega's chronograph development. Its design elements, including the case proportions and dial configuration, represent a significant period in the brand's history. The presence of the Caliber 321 further enhances its appeal among enthusiasts of vintage chronograph movements.

. . . no idea how truly scarce it was until just now. Makes the PAF abundant by comparison. Congratulations on having scored both, and a couple of thousand thanks for sharing your treasures with us on this forum. Art

I bought my ACP some 15 years ago in my hometown Vienna. It came directly from South America. Several years ago I sold it to a very knowledgeable person, who published a well known book on the subject...
