Amanico presents the Panerai PAM 520, a white gold chronograph from 2014, highlighting its distinctive aesthetic and the superb Minerva 13-22 movement. He compares it to its platinum (PAM 518) and rose gold (PAM 519) counterparts, explaining his preference for the PAM 520's dial and its nod to the historic 2533 reference. This post offers a detailed look at a less common Panerai chronograph.

Issued in 2014, it was available in platinum ( PAM 518 ), in rose gold ( PAM 519 ) and in white gold ( PAM 520 ).

Here is my favorite of the three, the white gold PAM 520.

I find the white dial of the platinum less strong looking, and I love the wink to the 2533 dial a lot.

The case is 45 mm big, quite high, and it houses the superb Minerva 13-22 movement:

The white gold and the rose are limited to 100 pieces each, while the platinum is limited to 50 pieces.

Here are the 518 and the 519 for the comparison:

About the Panerai PAM00100 - Radiomir pink gold diamond dial Ref. PAM100

The Panerai PAM100 is a distinctive model within the brand's offerings, notable for its departure from the more utilitarian aesthetic often associated with Panerai. This reference presents a refined interpretation, emphasizing precious materials and a sophisticated dial treatment. It caters to collectors seeking a Panerai that blends the brand's characteristic case design with a luxurious presentation, distinguishing it from tool-watch oriented references.

This particular reference features a 40mm pink gold case, providing a substantial yet wearable presence. The watch is equipped with a mechanical movement, offering a power reserve suitable for daily wear. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, ensuring clarity and scratch resistance. The construction reflects a commitment to traditional watchmaking standards, with attention to both material selection and finishing.

The PAM100 appeals to collectors interested in Panerai's exploration of high-end materials and finishes. Its diamond dial further positions it as a piece for special occasions or as a statement watch within a collection. This reference represents a facet of Panerai's production that broadens its appeal beyond its traditional military-inspired designs, offering a more opulent option for enthusiasts.

I like both white metal pieces, it would be nice to have them as a set 😜

And the movement goes without saying, just gorgeous. Thank you for showing them .

My favorite would be the white dial version.

Lovely watch but no way I could put this 45 mm piece gracefully on my rather small wrist.

That' the thing with Panerai. Not for everybody's wrist. Thanks for your comment, jlux. [nt]

You know… I remember when these were announced, and in the article I read, the rose gold was featured. I thought: "That's a whole lot of gold I'm looking at." and all but

forgot to look at the dial! As usual, Nicolas, you know how to pick 'em. They tried to give the white face a spark with the blue chrono hands. but it's still too plain. No… you've picked the right one. Did you bite? The movement, alone, is worth a great deal. But you have your beloved Montblanc Chronograph which must have a very similar, if not the same, Minerva magic inside. I'm glad you posted these. Too easily forgotten in the expectation that every year newer, more wonderous things must come

Excellent analogy. We tend to forget too fast the good things we saw not that long ago. Typical of the societies we live in. Thanks, Fred. [nt]
