Amanico's initial impressions of the Panerai Radiomir 1940 Marina Militare PAM587 from Watches & Wonders 2014 sparked significant discussion among collectors. His post highlights the watch's compelling design and movement, while also addressing common collector concerns about limited editions and caseback choices. This article synthesizes the community's immediate reactions to this highly anticipated release.
I will make it short, this is a BOMB.
This is THE watch I was looking for, from Panerai.
First the case, which is sublime ( 47 mm ). Big? Well, not for every wrist, but this is a Panerai, and a Panerai, by essence, is a big Watch.
Then the dial, sober, class, powerful.
And the movement, the P 3000... 3 Days power reserve is much better than the Rolex Cortebert.
The Cons?
The see through case back. I would have preferred a solid one. Much more oherent with this kind of Watch, but I can live with!
The Marina Militare Name... Not sure that the Italian Navy authorized Panerai to do so. I would have preferred without.
The fact that this watch is limited to 1000 pièces. An unlimited edition would have been better, we would have avoided the flippers.
BUT....
The case is in stainless steel, and as we have a Panerai movement, we can guess and hope that the price will be " reasonnable " or, at least, much more affordable.
Here are the two press file pictures I just received.
Needless to say that I can't wait to see it in the flesh. Just to confirm the good feeling I have.
What's your opinion on this one?
Best,
Nicolas.

It distinguishes itself through its specific dial text and overall aesthetic, which aligns with the brand's pre-Vendôme era watches. This reference is part of a series of watches that evoke the brand's foundational period, appealing to collectors interested in the origins of Panerai's design language.
The watch features a 47mm polished steel case, a size characteristic of many historical Panerai instruments. It is fitted with a 3mm Plexiglas crystal, further enhancing its vintage appeal by replicating the material used in early models. The watch is powered by the in-house Calibre P.3000, a manual-wind movement known for its robust construction and a power reserve of three days. The solid case back maintains the historical integrity of the design.
This reference holds particular interest for collectors who appreciate Panerai's heritage-inspired pieces. It is often discussed alongside other models that draw heavily from the brand's past, such as the PAM372, for its faithful interpretation of vintage elements. The PAM587's specific dial configuration and limited production contribute to its desirability within the collecting community, representing a direct link to the brand's historical identity.
to have a solid personal idea,IMHO. I also preferred either a solid case back or a 3 days PR as for the calibre 3001 (but without sub-second). Maybe the next model in 2015 ;-)). Also waiting for a small Egiziano!!! One day, who knows??? Thanks for sharing this MM novelty. Patrickh
Simply awesome...101% pure Panerai...can't wait to see it (on my wrist)
This one may well be seen as th cherry on the cake. Best, Ale. Nicolas
the 6152 "look alike" connotations. The Marina Militare it's just too much to resist :-) I'm already in the process of trying to..switch, even though they'll make only 60 x 622 and 1000 of this one hahahahaha '
