Mark in Paris provides a comprehensive recap of Patek Philippe articles and discussions from 2016, offering a valuable resource for collectors to revisit key releases and forum highlights. He also looks ahead to 2017, anticipating anniversaries for the Aquanaut and Caliber 240, and the excitement surrounding Baselworld novelties. This post serves as an excellent guide to past content and a preview of future Patek Philippe developments.

Dear Purists,

2016 has ended and, like I did last year, I thought it could be useful (and, why not, interesting) to make a list of some of the threads that were posted in this section this year whether you missed them or maybe would like to have a look at them again.

This year has celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Annual Calendar complication (through the new 5396R and G versions unveiled at Basel), the 40th Anniversary of the Nautilus line-up, the presentation of the 5230, 5930 or 7122 (for ladies) new references etc… in a very interesting, surprising and nice way.

Now, 2017 will see the anniversaries of the Aquanaut line-up and of the Patented 240 caliber (thin, micro-rotor automatic movement). As you know, Patek Philippe doesn’t want to push forward one reference over the others, they are all put on the same level, all part of Patek Philippe’s history, thus there won’t be, in my opinion, anything significant in terms of anniversary celebration but nevertheless they are dates to remember and… who knows.

Last but not least, it will soon be Baselworld time (March 23-30, 2017) of course! As usual, we never know what’s in the brand’s bags and it is always exciting to discover what they will unveil. Of course, we'll discuss about it as usual a few weeks before the presentation.

Like every year, I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing your new watch projects, experience with the ones you discovered (year’s novelties or references handled for the first time) and the other topics you wish to bring that fuel our passion and that we will be discussing. And of course: your fantastic pictures! While I had a look back at this year's posts, I thought about how unbelievable is the number and quality of the pictures posted and especially when considering the fact they are often very rare vintage pieces, modern reference just as rare (5131, highly complicated references, limited editions...) etc... As all watch lovers, we can't thank you enough for that.

Of course, you can still use our Search function and find watches threads and especially pictures that were posted in the past (I couldn't make a list here as it would have been much too long but they do deserve it). Furthermore, you still have our grey quick links at the end of posts which is a practical tool added this year as well. There are indeed many more interesting posts that you've all initiated or participated to with all your fantastic pictures and subjects. Thank you everyone for that, they are what makes this forum such active.

I wish you all a healthy and happy new year for 2017!

Mark

About the Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 5153

The Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 5153 represents a 38mm manual wind iteration within the Calatrava collection. Distinguished by its white gold construction and black dial configuration, this reference was produced from 2005 to 2012, offering collectors a substantial case size within the dress watch category.

The 38mm case is crafted from 18k white gold and features a smooth bezel with sapphire crystal protection. The manual wind caliber 215 PS movement provides 44 hours of power reserve, while water resistance extends to 30 meters. The black dial is complemented by a leather strap, maintaining the classical proportions expected from this configuration.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a larger Calatrava format in precious metal, with the 38mm case size providing contemporary wrist presence. The manual wind movement and seven-year production span positions the 5153 as a substantial dress watch option within the white gold Calatrava offerings from this period.
