Nicolas (amanico) presents the Patek Philippe Ref. 5033P, a minute repeater distinguished by its tonneau-shaped platinum case. His original post highlights the watch's unique aesthetic and impressive acoustic quality, inviting collectors to appreciate a rare blend of horological complexity and distinctive design. This piece remains a significant topic for its unusual case shape paired with a grand complication.

The Patek Philippe Reference 5033 is a minute repeater, distinguished by its tonneau-shaped case, a rare form factor for this highly complex complication within the brand's offerings. This reference represents Patek Philippe's commitment to traditional horological artistry, combining a sophisticated acoustic mechanism with an uncommon case design that sets it apart from more conventional round or rectangular minute repeaters. It was produced in limited numbers, emphasizing its exclusivity and specialized appeal to collectors of chiming watches.
The watch features an 18k white gold tonneau case measuring 38mm in diameter, housing the manual-wind Caliber 21. This movement provides a power reserve of 40 hours. A sapphire crystal protects the silver dial. The case is water-resistant to 30 meters, a standard for such intricate mechanisms. The minute repeater function is activated by a slide on the case flank, producing a clear and resonant chime.
This reference appeals to collectors who value both the technical mastery of a minute repeater and the aesthetic distinction of a tonneau case. Its rarity and the combination of a complex mechanism with an unusual form factor make it a notable piece within Patek Philippe's grand complication lineage. The 5033 is a testament to the brand's ability to innovate within traditional watchmaking boundaries, offering a unique proposition for discerning enthusiasts.

...but the case shape is gorgeous. The normal version is a bargain and I have considered it. I would have to try that one on first as well... Edit: That is the 5135 in all metals...really nice.

with a mid level calendar function and one that doesnβt even have a moon phase or 24 hour dial. Why?
I like it, especially the simplicity of the dial. It could be a nice "under-the-radar" daily π One thing I don't like at this level is shaped cases with round calibers... isn't it kind of lazy?
wrist presence π Wonder what the sounds are like for a P case ? π€
