small-luxury-world, also known as Oliver, initiates a thought-provoking discussion, inviting the community to imagine a Patek Philippe watch they wish existed in the current collection. Oliver proposes a hypothetical Ref. 5178, combining the case and size of the Ref. 5078 with a chronometer version of the Caliber 260, envisioning a new level of finishing for a 'simple' modern Patek Philippe.

in the current Patek Philippe collection - something you dream about?

Even comprehensive collections canΒ΄t show everything, but this one I would more than appreciate:

The case and size of the Ref. 5078 (without the minute repeater slider) and a (chronometer) version of the caliber 260.

Maybe with a level of finishing, which we never saw before in a "simple" (modern)
Patek Philippe smile

Black or white dial? Well, both would be even better but I would be more than happy to see at least one of them ...

G or P, I can imagine both.

Reference number could be 5178 , to make it a real PuristS watch smile

Just a quick and dirty Photoshop picture for your imagination.

The current caliber 260, known from Ref. 5235.

The Ref. 5078 ...

... on my wrist. The style, the size, the feel ... just perfect!

What do you have in mind? Maybe someone from PP is lurking. You never know ...

Oliver

About the Patek Philippe Minute Repeater Ref. 5078

The Patek Philippe reference 5078 represents the manufacture's 38mm minute repeater offering within their complications collection. Part of the 38mm Minute Repeater series, this reference was produced from 2008 to 2019, establishing its position as a contemporary grand complication timepiece.

The 5078 features a 38mm case available in three precious metal options: 18k white gold, 18k rose gold, or platinum. The polished bezel and sapphire crystal complement the available dial color variants. The manual-winding caliber 240 Q provides 48 hours of power reserve, housed within a case rated to 30 meters water resistance. A leather strap with fold-over clasp completes the construction.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a minute repeater complication in a moderately sized case. The multiple metal options and dial variants provide choice within the reference, while the 11-year production run offers reasonable availability in the secondary market. The 5078 positions itself as an accessible entry point into Patek Philippe's chiming complications category.

I would get that watch without delay

and would appreciate both G and P but prefer P. If the watch would also have hacking seconds hand, even better. And in my dreams the dial would be made of enamel. Black or white - both would be great but dark blue would be a real winner. I feel lucky that Patek is not launching new dream watches often. It would become too expensive. Best, Kari

Funny, been thinking about that these days!

I would love a modern simple Patek dress watch! I feel that all simple Pateks are more or less old fashioned. That need not be a bad thing in itself but I would appreciate a modern Patek that does not look like 1950. Maybe take the wcase of the 5146 in white gold and its dial and hands. Remove the annual calender subdials. Use a black dial and black date disk with date window at six. Voila. My dream of a modern Patek everyday watch! But I guess I have to shop at Chopard who, apart from the Piage

Does it look like this ...

... what you have in mind? Nice, but does it look modern to you? Cheers, Oliver

Wow! I guess...

... it is clear to see that my first watch was my father's Rolex Explorer 1016! Maybe not modern but classic, rather than oldfashioned. It does look very nice indeed! Thanks! Now I just need a good goldsmith...
