Pretty Boy's initial encounter with the Patek Philippe Ref. 5236P Perpetual Calendar offers a crucial first-hand perspective on a significant modern complication. His detailed observations on its wrist presence and dial aesthetics provide invaluable insights for collectors considering this reference. This article synthesizes community reactions, exploring the watch's design choices and its place within Patek Philippe's esteemed perpetual calendar lineage.

Saw it for the first time in real life and was not disappointed. The dial is a chameleon, changing colors from black to blue. The proportions of the case are great; it really has an excellent wrist presence. I feared that the diameter of 41.3 mm was too large but it’s not due to the short and downward pointing lugs. It really sat beautifully on my wrist. Best, V.

About the Patek Philippe Complications Ref. 5236

The Complications reference 5236P-001, introduced in 2021, is notable for its in-line perpetual calendar display. This configuration presents all calendar indications – day, date, month, and leap year – in a single, elongated aperture below 12 o'clock. This design choice offers a distinct aesthetic and legibility compared to traditional perpetual calendars with multiple subdials or apertures. The reference was a significant addition to Patek Philippe's Complications collection, showcasing a novel approach to a classic grand complication. Its platinum case and blue dial further underscore its position within the brand's high-end offerings.

The watch is housed in a platinum case measuring 41.3mm in diameter, with a thickness of 11.07mm. It is powered by the self-winding caliber 31-260 PS QL, a movement specifically developed for this in-line perpetual calendar display. This movement incorporates several technical advancements to achieve its unique calendar presentation and offers a power reserve of 38 to 48 hours. The watch features a sapphire crystal on both the front and the case back, allowing for a view of the meticulously finished movement.

As a relatively recent introduction that was subsequently discontinued, the 5236P-001 holds particular interest for collectors who appreciate innovative calendar displays and limited production periods. Its technical sophistication and unique aesthetic appeal to those seeking a distinct perpetual calendar from Patek Philippe. The discontinuation of a model introduced in 2021, while not uncommon for certain high-end references, adds to its potential collectibility, distinguishing it from longer-running production pieces.

Lovely to see the new releases, and not just non-working ones either. Am wondering about 5236P dimensions being too generous….Whilst the 5270 as a PCC has a lot to read in the dial at 41mm, with the in-line perpetual would 40mm or less have worked better for proportions? Bit tricky when the date mechanism so complex underneath the dial! Need to see it on the wrist at the AD! PP Exhibition at ours next month but I guess all times will read 10:10!

I actually ordered three novelties already in April without having seen them in the metal. As you can imagine, I cannot have the first incoming piece in each case. As regards 5326P, I will get the second piece but there’s a chance that I will get this first incoming nevertheless as the other client might have to pull out of his order.

I guess you will be positively surprised. It’s by no means a small watch but it fitted my wrist better than 5270.

Am wondering whether this could be the ‘end’ watch, being easier to read than 5270. But if you’re ordering three novelties unseen then it answers my fear that there never is an end watch for us!🤣

Luckily, my financial means are limited.
