Apologizes in advance for the mediocrity of my photos - unfortunately the lighting in the patek booth in Basel
was not ideal but I still wanted to give you a glimpse of the 5224G.

much has been said about this strange new watch from patek - are the catalogue photos really accurate?

I think that the 5224G is possibly the #1 of the Patek offering this year in Basel. Granted, I am not a huge
fan of complications so my universe of interest is more limited. But I have to say that for someone that loves
pilot watches the 5524G is very much patek and very much unique.  It is a perfect under the radar patek
that can indeed by confused by many more spartan brands and manufacturers. But make no mistake - this isn't
your average Zenit.

The case proportions are excellent and cannot be compared to the huge monster pilot watches offered by other brands.

I go as far as saying that this is the #1 this year as it was surprising, exciting and daring at the same time.  Another perpetual calendar? Minute repeater? Yawn.  This watch offers a very intelligent complication and it is priced, in gold, at the same level of
the steel nautilus dual time.

For someone looking for a Patek that is more young and modern the 5224G is a winner.

The patek post box is very classy and interesting.

The patek booth is very classy and elegant. Absolutely stunning.

With several things to see in Basel the Patek booth and 5224G was a true highlight to me. The elegance of Patek
was very much present and visible throughout the fair. This new model shows that Patek is not just capable to
produce grand-father styled watches but to dare with new, younger more intriguing models like this stunning pilot watch.

Well done Patek !

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5224

The Patek Philippe Reference 5224R-001, introduced in 2022, presents a distinctive take on the travel time complication by integrating a 24-hour display. This model deviates from the traditional day/night indicators often found in dual time zone watches, offering a more direct and continuous reading of the home time. Its design emphasizes legibility and a refined aesthetic, positioning it as a sophisticated option for collectors seeking a practical yet understated travel watch from the brand. The integration of a 24-hour scale on the main dial is a notable characteristic.

This reference features a rose gold case, measuring 42 mm in diameter. It houses the self-winding caliber 31-260 PS FUS 24H, which is visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement incorporates a platinum micro-rotor, contributing to its slim profile and efficient winding. The dial is presented in a blue-gray hue, providing a subtle contrast with the rose gold case. The sapphire crystal on the front ensures clear visibility of the dial.

The 5224R-001 appeals to collectors who appreciate Patek Philippe's technical innovations and a departure from more conventional designs. The choice of rose gold and the specific dial color contribute to its distinct character within the brand's contemporary offerings. Its double complication, combining a 24-hour display with travel time, offers a functional advantage for frequent travelers while maintaining a high level of horological craftsmanship.

true but..

Patek has always been a bit guilty of casing small movements in bigger watches. This seems to be the case too (thanks for the better photo) but still this was such a daring move. This watch is so modern and contemporary. Glad to see Patek trying something new and not being stuck in the past !

Is it?

In my books, it still works. But as always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Oliver
