GLau's post offers a lighthearted yet poignant reminder of the aspirational nature of haute horology, even when the 'grail' is a temporary tattoo. It highlights the enduring allure of Patek Philippe's most coveted complications, particularly the World Time Minute Repeater Ref. 5531R-010, and invites the community to share in the joy of these horological dreams, however they manifest.
water transfer tattoo ! 😉
I received it back in 2017 and it was stored in my drawer and forgotten for many years until my recent move. Once discovered, I was afraid the paint might have gone dry ! This watch has always been in my dreams since a decade ago and so I had to put it on ASAP. This watch is thin and rests comfortably on my wrist and I needed to make the chiming sounds by myself though ! 🤣 Anyway, dreaming is free.
How does this 5531R look on my wrist ?
For those of you that still have these tattoos (no matter which reference), please put them on and share wrist shots.

The Patek Philippe Reference 5531 is distinguished as a World Time Minute Repeater, a highly complex combination of two of Patek Philippe's signature complications. It was initially introduced as a limited edition, highlighting both the brand's technical prowess in horology and its artistic application of métiers d'art, specifically cloisonné enamel work on the dial, depicting urban landscapes.
The case of the 5531 measures 40.20 mm in diameter and 11.49 mm in thickness, crafted in rose gold. It is powered by the self-winding Caliber R 27 HU, an integrated movement that allows the minute repeater to chime the local time as indicated by the world time function. The watch features a sapphire crystal.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking Patek Philippe's high complications combined with unique artistic dials. The initial release in 2017 featured two distinct cloisonné enamel dial variants, each depicting a Manhattan skyline, one in a daytime scene and the other at night, further enhancing its exclusivity and collector appeal within the grand complication series.
