i_am_Sam shares his acquisition of the Patek Philippe Ref. 5960P, his second Patek Philippe and first platinum annual calendar chronograph. This post delves into his decision-making process, comparing it to the A. Lange & Söhne Datograph, and highlights the unique design elements and wrist presence that made the 5960P a compelling choice. i_am_Sam's personal journey offers valuable insights into collecting high-complication timepieces.

The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5960A, introduced in stainless steel, represents a significant offering within the brand's annual calendar chronograph series. This particular reference is notable for being the first annual calendar chronograph from Patek Philippe to be offered in a non-precious metal, making it a distinctive piece in the Complications collection. It combines practical complications with a robust case material, appealing to collectors seeking a blend of utility and horological complexity.
This reference features a 40.5mm stainless steel case, housing the self-winding Caliber CH 28-520 QA 24H. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 55 hours and is visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The dial is presented in white, protected by a sapphire crystal, and the watch is water-resistant to 30 meters. The integrated stainless steel bracelet complements the case material, providing a cohesive aesthetic.
The 5960A in stainless steel holds a specific position for collectors due to its material choice and the integrated bracelet, differentiating it from its precious metal counterparts. Its combination of an annual calendar and chronograph functions, along with the 24-hour indication, makes it a highly functional and mechanically interesting timepiece. The special hand set and case back decoration mentioned for this specific 5960A further emphasize its unique attributes within the production run.
Despite the annual calendar complication, which I don't like. But I love this dial so much that I would even forget it is aalso an annual calendar. One of the very few in the current collection I am seriously considering to buy. Huge congratulations, Sam. And well, Sunday is confession day. Well done, too. :) Best, Nicolas
This is a superb watch, the most important is your own feelings when you wear it. The concave case is very nice, I enjoy it a lot my 5205. Best. Fx
Not a fan of chronograph myself, unless they are special ones,I am more keen on the anuual calendar, but anyway all together this is such a pleasant watch. I really like it,and your pictures especially the movement one are gorgeous. I think a little Patek love is growing on me.... Huge congrats Mo
I just can't wait to see what you get for next week! Congratulations! Wear in good health.
This is getting something of a ritual. ;) What will you surprise us with next. :) Seriously, I am slightly envious of you. This original 5960P is my favourite not only of the model range but also as an Annual Calendar.
You are begining to climb the patek ladder real fast. Congrates on this beauty. An icon to many patek fans. Truely one of the most beautiful and balance Patek imho. Wear it with much joy and Pride. And congratulation on your engagement. ( or is it wedding? ) Best Iceman
