WatchFan1's acquisition of the Patek Philippe Ref. 5098R 'Gondolo' highlights the enduring appeal of vintage-inspired design and the influence of community discussion. His detailed photos and personal reflections on choosing the rose gold variant over platinum offer valuable insights into the nuances that captivate seasoned collectors. This article explores why the Ref. 5098, with its unique history and exquisite craftsmanship, continues to be a coveted piece among Patek Philippe enthusiasts.

I must admit that I was enamored by this reference since it was introduced in 2007.

I love the strong vintage look and also the story of the Brazilian *Gondolo Gang*, their lottery system etc.

The king of the show is of course the stunning hand turned guilloche dial. I was strongly considering the Platinum version but in the end I decided to go for rose gold version, as I appreciated a little bit more the more contrasting two tone dial and to me, the rose gold gave it even more of a vintage vibe.

Finding one at an incredible attractive price and seeing the recent post by some of the members here pushed me finally off the cliff......21 years later 😎

It just arrived yesterday and I must say that I'm thoroughly impressed. Also decided to share a few pictures to demonstrate how the strap attaches to the case and the buckle.

Considering reaching out to my trusted gator strap maker and order burgundy and darker lime green.....also considering a true chestnut brown as the current brown strap is "very" dark.

Your photos are wonderful, not only showing the great beauty and charm of the rose gold version, but also the "naked" case and the screwed strap and buckle bars. I didn't know you liked this reference so much, but obviously I understand why and it's definitely a great addition to your fantastic collection. Just a little clarification: the 5098P was introduced in 2007 (not 2004) and the 5098R was introduced two years later in 2009. Wear it in the best of health. Best, Emmanuel PS: if you want, I

The dial is just insane and the gallouche on the inner dial is just beautiful as is the whole watch, those lug bars remind me of early Panerai's. Wear and enjoy it in good health. iv> div> Marc
