Dr.kol shares his exclusive experience at the Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition in New York, offering a comparative perspective to the London exhibition. His post highlights the unique atmosphere and the special edition timepieces, providing valuable insights for collectors who couldn't attend. This retrospective look offers a chance to appreciate the scale and artistry of these significant brand events.

The Patek Philippe Reference 130 is a significant chronograph model, notable for its classic design and the various configurations in which it was produced. While many examples feature a standard chronograph layout, specific iterations, such as those with split-seconds functionality, represent a higher echelon of horological complexity within the reference. The model is recognized for its balanced proportions and the legibility of its dial, making it a favored choice among collectors seeking vintage Patek Philippe chronographs.
This particular example of the Reference 130 is distinguished by its yellow gold case, measuring 33mm in diameter. It houses a manual-winding movement, typical for chronographs of its era, and is fitted with a crystal, likely acrylic or sapphire depending on the specific production period and any subsequent servicing. The case construction and movement finishing adhere to Patek Philippe's high standards for precision and durability.
Collector interest in the Reference 130 is driven by its historical importance as an early chronograph from the brand and the rarity of certain dial and complication variations. The presence of unique characteristics, such as Breguet numerals, specific dial signatures, or the absence of a tachymeter scale, can significantly influence its appeal. The reference appeals to those who appreciate the foundational designs of Patek Philippe's chronograph lineage.
You are indeed a most fortunate man and a special customer of the London salon. Ed is indeed a star as he always has been. I hope to meet you at the Asian show either in Hong Kong or Singapore in 2019!
Nobody told me that there would be the next Grand Exhibition nor where it would be organised. I made just a lucky guess and I know that Mr. Stern visits very often Singapore... So see you there! Best, Kari
â⊠I took with me my Leica Q, charged the battery but when I started to take photos, I noticed that I forgot the memory card. On the second visit I had a memory card in my pocket, but forgot the camera to the hotel. On the third visit I decided to use my iPhone, but the battery was flat..." I think the chorus is⊠âyouâre once, twice, three times an idiot, but we still love youâ
I would love for it to be in Singapore as it is close by and besides all the SIngapore ADs are also based in Malaysia so it will give me time to establish a relationship to enable me to have an outside chance on obtaining a novelty!
And it's always such a great pleasure visiting there. Best, Kari
It's interesting reading about people's thoughts and what is everyone's different perspective on an event or a watch. You know, I've also been thinking at what I would like if I were to get a Minute Repeater. I love the 5029P (a 10-piece edition to commemorate the opening of the new building) and the 5339R of which Bruno took fantastic pictures a while ago (it has a tourbillon but I would like a MR only on this watch basis) or a 5078R. However, the 5531R is more exciting to me and I totally unde
