Miranda challenges the notion that only vintage Patek Philippe pieces hold special emotion, presenting a compelling argument for modern references. She curates her personal top five Patek Philippe watches from the new millennium, sparking a lively debate among collectors about which contemporary models truly stand out and will become future classics.

We all know the special emotion tied with vintage Patek. Some of the pieces are agonisingly beautiful. But what of the modern era? Specifically the new millennial’s. Can modern Patek’s live with the history of their illustrious forebears?
Well, I think some modern millennial’s already do. So here are my personal top five modern post 2000 pieces.
So where to begin? Actually this was easy, right at the beginning, in 2000. To celebrate the arrival of a new century Patek Philippe launched the limited edition ref 5100. An exceedingly striking piece with vintage DNA and a thoroughly modern heart. It had a superb shaped movement with an incredible 10 day power reserve. Brains and beauty. The pick of the crop, for me the platinum. But I would say that!

Finally, oh finally……a piece that is both stimulating and vexatious. The infamous 5131. The true successor to the unbelievable enamel dial world timers of the 1950’s, they are already cult objects. Desired by just about everyone, pieces of art, but unfortunately never enough. Which metal? Honestly these are not about the metal, it’s about the enamelling. And beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For me the best are white followed by rose then platinum. But that’s me, so for that reason I present all of them, you can decide which enamel floats your boat the most.
I am sure there are many other pieces, such as the 3712,5550p, the 5650G, so many like the 5101p, minute repeaters etc., but these five were relatively obtainable and I think you will agree, even if you may have alternative choices, they are five special pieces.

The Patek Philippe reference 5004 is a highly regarded grand complication, combining a split-seconds chronograph with a perpetual calendar. This reference was a significant offering in Patek Philippe's catalog, representing a sophisticated blend of technical mastery and traditional watchmaking. It was produced in limited numbers, making it a sought-after piece among collectors of complex horology.
The watch features a 36mm platinum case with a thickness of 15mm, housing the manual-winding caliber CHR 27-70 Q. This movement provides a power reserve of 60 hours and is protected by a sapphire crystal. The dial is presented in silver opaline, offering clear legibility for its numerous indications. The case is water-resistant to 30 meters.
As a split-seconds perpetual calendar, the reference 5004 appeals to collectors who value both intricate mechanical solutions and classical design. Its production run from 1996 to 2012 saw various dial and case material iterations, though platinum was a prominent offering. The integration of two major complications in a relatively compact case underscores its appeal within the realm of high-end watch collecting.
My watch box and one on order. I fully agree with your selection. Thanks Imran. Best, Kari
I would swap 5100 with 5650.
5100 needs quite a wide wrist. I would perhaps consider swapping the anniversary World Time to 5650. Anyhow, Imran's point was clear: during this millennium Patek has introduced some great references. Like in the past, there are always references one wants to forget and then there are references which are future classics from birth. Best, Kari
My choice would be; 5131 , 5575, 5370, 5320 and 5970P But if i could only have one watch and it would be PP my absolute favorite of all watches is this one ☝️ It even fits my wife’s tiny wrist 😋
.....i think the 5100 is rightfully in that Top 5. Its an incredible reference. I REALLY wanted it....but when I tried it on, just impossible for my wrist. Odd, but i also agree with him on 5070p v 5970p.
Naturally, 5070P is a keeper even I do not wear that watch so much. Sometimes I think it's a little bit big. But I am old fashioned. Best, Kari
