KIH's post offers a rare glimpse into a gathering of horological icons, focusing on Gerald Genta's seminal designs. His detailed photographs and personal reflections provide an intimate look at the Patek Philippe Nautilus 3700, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 5402ST, and IWC Ingenieur SL 1832. This article explores the nuances of these legendary timepieces, highlighting their enduring appeal and the unique experience of encountering them together.

The Royal Oak reference 5402ST is recognized as the original "Jumbo" model, establishing the distinctive design language for the collection. This reference introduced the integrated bracelet, octagonal bezel secured by visible screws, and a slim profile that defined the luxury sports watch category upon its release. It represents the foundational execution of the Royal Oak concept in stainless steel.
The watch features a 39 mm stainless steel case, housing the self-winding caliber 2121. This movement provides a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The case is fitted with an acrylic crystal and offers water resistance up to 50 meters. The blue dial, characterized by its "Petite Tapisserie" pattern, complements the brushed and polished finishes of the case and bracelet.
For collectors, the 5402ST holds significance as the initial series of the Royal Oak. Its design integrity and historical position within the brand's output make it a focal point for those interested in the development of contemporary watchmaking. The reference was produced from 1972 to 1980, with various series designations indicating production batches.
But wait, where is the Credor Loco?? The 3700 fits you perfectly Danger! Thanks for the photo report, Matt
.. just a bit difference of the "class" maybe :-)
Great place Great people Cool watches Loved it.......
Well, Ken, this is one of the best (maybe "The" for me) watch gathering you've been sharing with us :) While telling the new Pateks we would want to see for Baselworld, I've been really looking forward to have a very thin 2 hands one (maybe for the 40th anniversary ?) Can I ask you what difference you can see or feel about the bracelet finish and design or construction between the 5712 and the 3700 (links gap, are the link as tight as the 5712's etc...)? Thank you very much! Cheers, Mark
.. what I felt difference is the "thinness" of 3700 in comparison to 5712. Clasp type is very different from today's Nautilus series, but that is the same for Royal Oak. Bracelet is made as good as the new one, I thought. But it was dark and I was too excited and I missed something..... Yeah, 40th Anniversary Nautilus is the possibility. But no matter what Nautilus Patek came up with, I would still look for 3700 because: 1. I love original ones, in comparison to the "re-issue", whenever possible
Tokyo has lots of people :-) Ken
