Baron - Mr Red challenges the Patek Philippe community to curate a two-watch collection from current production, adhering to a $150,000 budget. This exercise prompts collectors to consider versatility, personal preferences, and the brand's diverse offerings, highlighting the complexities of building a balanced collection within specific financial constraints.

Same rules as before, except this time the budget is $150,000 for the two. Which two would you buy from the current collection that would cover all the bases for a 2-watch collection from Patek?

This one is much harder than before. I am going with two watches that I don't own.

My rationale is that within that budget, it just isn't possible to go for the grand complications so readily! Similarly, one needs two watches that can cover all the bases.

So, for me, I am going for the 5968A (even though its too big on my wrist) and the 5230G because I see the latter as quite a formal world time watch. I wanted to love the 5968A so much, but for my wrist it just didn't work. It is possible that the 5164A would end up as my casual wearer.

So, what would be your two from the current range?

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5130

The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5130, introduced in 2006, is a World Time watch that succeeded the popular reference 5110. This model maintained the distinctive World Time complication, allowing for simultaneous display of time in 24 different time zones. Its design evolved with a slightly larger case and updated dial aesthetics, distinguishing it from its predecessor while retaining the core functionality that defines Patek Philippe's travel timepieces. It was produced until 2017.

The watch features an 18k rose gold case measuring 39.5mm in diameter and 9.8mm in thickness, housing the self-winding Caliber 240 HU movement. This ultra-thin movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back, provides a power reserve of 48 hours. The dial is silver or opaline with a guilloché center, protected by a sapphire crystal. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters.

Reference 5130 appeals to collectors seeking a sophisticated travel complication from Patek Philippe. Its larger case size compared to the 5110 offered a more contemporary presence on the wrist, while its classic World Time mechanism remained a hallmark of the brand's technical prowess. The model was available in various precious metals, with the rose gold variant offering a warm aesthetic.

This is much more difficult especially as it has to come from the current collection! I would choose my incoming 7234R and the 5170P! The perfectly sized 7234R which is actually a ladies watch! The 5170P and its gorgeous dial

5230G is a strong choice, but I have two problems: I am waiting for a P version, first, and / or probably a 5231 in white metal. So, maybe not an immediate choice. But since you said from the current collection... The 5930G, I really have to see it in the flesh. Ir is intriguing me a lot. The small seconds disturbs me, so I have to test it in the metal. The Aquanaut Chrono is great looking, young, fresh, original. You see, not very convinced for the moment, in this price range. But if I had to c

except that I found it a little thick next to the 5230G due to the added complication. You must try one on soon!

for me, first time for a while that I didn't pull trigger on something from the collection. Primarily because I am waiting like you for the right variant

Here's the 5131P, while I'm still looking forward to seeing the 5968A in the metal, especially with the orange strap (will finally do next Tuesday at a Villa d'Este event, where Patek has suggested orange in the dress code!
