Emmanuel, known as 'quattro' on WatchProSite, offers an exclusive first look at Rexhep Rexhepi's Chronomètre Antimagnétique, created for Only Watch 2023. His detailed photographs and insights illuminate the watch's dual inspiration: a tribute to historical precision chronometers and a practical solution for modern magnetic environments. This article delves into the design philosophy and technical innovations that make this timepiece a significant horological statement.

For Only Watch 2023, Rexhep Rexhepi created a watch conceived as both:

  • a tribute to the precision chronometers that once guided explorers to the Earth’s poles
  • and a practical timekeeper for modern life, where electronics containing powerful magnets are frequently encountered in everyday life.

The black Grand Feu enamel dial is inspired by the “scientificdials of historical chronometers: the alternating blocks along the hour scale are an abstract representation of the opposite polarities of a magnetic field.

The hands are made of solid gold and the minutes hand is stepped.

The hands are attached to their own steel hubs that are beveled and polished.

The 38 x 9.9 (whithout glass) x 48.5 mm steel case was made by Jean-Pierre Hagmann.

The movement is surrounded by a soft-iron cage to shield it from magnetic fields and, contrarily to the RRCC, it features a centre seconds (as well as a zero-reset function).

In addition to the sapphire case back, the watch features an external solid screw-down case back.

It features a hand-engraved lightning bolt symbolising magnetism and serving as a reference point for the correct alignment of the case back for its removal.

I love and want it! Obviously it's a one of one, and even if it weren't, it's from a maker whose watches I can't afford. HOWEVER, it seemed to me that it would have been extremely natural and extremely easy for Lange to make a version of the Richard Lange that took this watch as inspiration: a big three hand chronometer with a long sweep seconds in a black dial with vintage tool watch styling. If they did, that would be a new Lange that I'd have been happy to pay for, and all it would really req

I completely understand your idea, but it doesn't seem to be the kind of project Lange has in mind, unfortunately. But who knows what the future holds? Very unlikely, but not necessarily totally impossible. Best, Emmanuel

I find the dial of this model slightly oppressing compared to the other one you posted the other day. I suspect it is a visual trick caused by the small blocks on the dial forcing the sight to focus inwards. For this reason I would choose the other model.

Also I am not comfortable with the stepped minute hand - either straight or curved. The movement is of course 💯💯💯

And it boiled down to personal preference.

Can’t wait to see what the normal version will be soon . Ofcourse difficult to order due to higher demand and i think price point but would love to have one 🙏🏻🙏🏻
