foversta presents a curated selection of wristshots from SalonQP 2013, offering readers a visual tour of the event's key timepieces. This post captures the dynamic atmosphere of the exhibition and highlights the vitality of both established and emerging independent watch brands. The author's personal impressions provide valuable context for each featured watch.

The 2013 edition of the SalonQP has just closed its doors. It was a really great Salon due to the presence of the numerous exhibiting brands and thanks to the excellent and always improving organization by James Gurney's team.

I propose you to browse my selection of wristshots to give you a good idea of what were the key watches of the event. Of course, there is a constant will to give a highlight to English brands and I'm very surprised by the vitality of the revival of this activity.

Let's have a look now at these watches! Of course, I will come back to some of them with detailed reports & pics during the next weeks.

Akrivia is a brand founded in 2012 by young watchmaker Rexhep Rexhepi. The first watch is a Tourbillon monopusher chronograph whose movement is based on the BNB caliber:

I was so happy to be able to see at last the EMC from Urwerk:

Peter Speake-Marin's Spirit Pioneer goes black. I'm not sure of this version however.

Max Büsser was presenting at the Salon the first evolution of the HM5 with this PG case. The HM5 RT is totally different from the titanium version.

One of the nice surprises was the Black Lamp from Schofield. If you are fan of black watches with a lighthouse atmosphere, the Black Lamp is for you!

There is an interesting story behind Pinion. It is a brand founded by former blogger and community manager Piers Berry. The Axis is the first watch of the collection.

As always, Kari Voutilainen surprised me with these 2 wonderful watches.

This V-8R features a stunning white dial:

And I will not forget this Vingt-8 GMT with its gorgeous dial. This watch is a piece unique.

Sometimes, a brand may become crazy! I don't know what Zenith had in mind when they dediced to release a full set version of the Pilot Type 20 watch (yes, the big one with a 57,5mm diameter). It is a LE of 5 pieces.

My bling-bling side!

Hopefully, Zenith is able to unveil the best with this very nice chronograph & minute repeater. Its dial is close to perfection.

What a pleasure to see for the first time the Gyro 3. I was not convinced with the pics, I much more seduced by the piece when seen in the metal.

Hautlence is back on the good tracks with the HLRQ!

Nomos wished the Lambda and the Lux to demonstrate its capacities and skills. The Lambda is a very neat and elegant watch while the Lux is more original. Both feature in-house movements with large power reserves (84 hours).

I love this MOP dial of the Upside Down. It nicely anilmates the dial. The watch looks almost like a roulette!

New CEO (David Gouten), new shareholder, Manufacture Royale will be a brand to follow during the next months! I like this Glacier version of the Androgyne:

Andreas Strehler won a few days ago the Gaïa Prize. This Sauterelle features a remontoir d'égalité different from Journe's one.

I couldn't resist to have a new look at the Papillon:

OceanArc is a new british brand whose purpose is to produce diving watches:

MCT is finding a new and more ambitious dynamic with its current team. This watch is an evolution of the Sequential One but several interesting projects are in the pipe including a round case watch.

Another brand with a new team: Moser. Clearly, the production process is improving both in terms of quality and of efficiency. This Nomad Dual Time is a good proof of this improvement:

The Logical One with platinum case and enamel dial is gorgeous. What a mesmerizing watch!

We all know the Grand Lange One Lumen and the 1815 Rattrapante PC but I couldn't resist to put them again on the wrist!

I'm not convinced by this strap for the SpaceCraft. The watch loses a bit the fluidity of  its design. I ordered a new strap for mine, I hope to get it very soon. It will be different from this one!

What a wonderful story behind this watch! Peter Roberts has created a modern version of its school watch created in 1971. The Concentrique features 5 hands mounted co-axially from the center:

A watch which indicates the weather forecasting barometric pressure is very useful in London! The Génie 01 gathers several unique complications for a wristwatch.

Stepan Sarpaneva was presenting a prototype of the watch with a white enamel dial. I am not convinced by this watch, I think it is too simple and bright for Stepan's style. A black enamel version will be presented and I believe that it will be much better!

Armin Strom is clearly a brand to follow! This Tourbillon Union Jack was unveiled at the SalonQP:

But I also took the opportunity to have a closer look on this automatic watch ( the micro-rotor which looks like a second barrel):

This one is the entry level of the brand. Entry level... but with all the quality expected from this brand.

This Split Second chronograph from Habring with blue dial and titanium case is a wonderful watch. I could spend hours watching its dial.

The SS version:

The Pilot watch and its dead-beat second hand: a perfect context for this second hand!

I'm less seduced by this one with date display and small second hand. With this type of design, I much prefer a central second hand:

Robert Loomes was presenting this year this PG evolution of  the Robin and the Robina:

The Levitas Jazz is another UFO from Konstantin Chaykin! It is a true aesthetic work based on the Levitas Mystery movement.

The Hijra is a watch dedicated to Muslims:

I couldn't miss the Codebreaker from Bremont! The watch is a proof of the qualitative steap-ahead from the brand:

Now the Tourbillon from Revolution is housed in the case which uses the bezel to "open" or "close" the dial and to make the Tourbillon visible or not.

This is a new version of the Stellaire from Badollet:

Obviously, I could also show you more watches but sadly I couldn't visit all the booths. Anyway, I trust that this selection is quite comprehensive and that it gives you a good picture of what were the salient watches of the Salon.

I would like to thank a lot all the brands staffs for their patience and the time they dedicated to me.

And now... I can't wait for the next edition of SalonQP!

Tremendous post as every year dear FX Thank you for all the time and effort you put in bringing this on wrist to us :) Kari's piece unique is indeed something unique Zenith's bling bling is so crazily outrageously illogical that it just makes sense in today's watchmaking line of business My most pleasant surprise is Logical One That looks just great on wrist Once more all the best and thank you Yours Damjan

Hi Fx, First, let me thank you a lot for showing this ws selection of yours. The Salon QP seems to be a great meeting from what I saw in the past and your ws galery is always worth waiting for. However, even thought there seems to be some interesting pieces here, there are also many new watches that seem to all look alike. Let me explain what I mean. I don't say the offer is poor technically, from an engineering standpoint. But as for the choice in style, dial design I see many brands that don't

Now the most difficult part is coming: to write in-depth reviews of some watches of this selection. Hopefully I have one year in front of me! ;) Fx

It is very difficult to bring something really new. Because if we follow the same logic, what are the watches which REALLY bring something new during the last years? Not a lot at the end. But when we look at the Gyro 3, the Logical One, the Urwerk EMC etc... they are bringing both technical and aesthetic interests. Obviously, I will not say that each and every watch of this selection has the same potential... but at least, it is refreshing to see that despite these difficult times, people still
