Hello Folks:

Early 2000's is when I picked up interest in haute horlogerie. And thats when the Freak came came out. And I remember that it had a profound impact on my interests in Watches, Watch collecting, and watchmakers. Subsequently I studied with deep interest how it was based on a young and talented watch designer named Carole Forrestier-Kasapi, and how Rolf Schnyder and Ludwig Oechslin converted that in to something amazing. It was and is a tour de force in aesthetics and functionality - No crown, 7 day power reserve, silicon escape wheels, a watch that is kinetic art, and a master stroke of marketing in naming it the Freak. It's taken me only 25 years to feel worthy of owning it but here I am. I strongly considered the latest iteration (Freak One) but something kept drawing me back to the original design. Isn't it all about emotional attachment anyway? So I am happy guy today who is now in search of the next grail!!

What sparked your interest in watches? As you consider that question, please enjoy a few pics.

J.

Obligatory wrist shot

Great view of the Silicon escapement & the planetary ring gear.

A Panerai Base PAM 2 in 1998, the Joy and Feeling was similar to yours with the Freak πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
