Nicolas (amanico) introduces the Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronograph Manufacture, a significant release from Basel Fair 2013 featuring the brand's first in-house chronograph movement, Caliber 150. This post delves into the design variations and technical highlights of this long-awaited timepiece.

The title is explicit. This year, Ulysse Nardin releases its first in house Chronograph, the Cal 150, a self winding movement, with a silicon escapement, the U.N Signature.

For the moment, I didn't find any photo of this movement, but I will post it as soon as I have it.

But one thing is sure, this is a long awaited watch, as the rumor of an in house chronograph transpired for a few years, now.

The asethetics won't disorient the lovers of the brand: A classic dial, or should i say dials, displaying the minutes, hours and seconds ( small seconds at 9 o' clock ) with a big second for the chorongraph as well as dedicated subdials for the chronograph minutes and hours ( 12 hours ).

The case, which is 43 mm big, is available in stainless steel and rose gold, with the same lugs than those we already saw on the Marine Chronometer.

The diffferent versions, now:

1/ Stainless Steel:

2/ Rose Gold:

3/ Rsoe Gold Limited Edition ( 150 pieces ) :

The details which make this Limited Edition different are the hands, and the grand feu enamel dial.

About the straps, you will have the choice between leather and rubber ( coming with a folding buckle ), and a rose gold bracelet for the rose gold versions, of course.

One detail which will please, or not, is this date at 4.30. I can't resist to write that I would have definitely preferred it without the date.

But I like the fact that Ulysse Nardin released this in house chronograph in a more affordable version ( the stainless steel ) as they did for the in house Chronometre.

What are your thoughts on this one?

Best,

Nicolas.

A big no for me....

The lim edition a bit better with a nice layout on the enamel dial, but the regular edition is not appealing at all, I dont like the sub dials hands, the layout, the graphic....must see it live ...BUTone thing is sure, that date is ugly as hell...I don t know why ,why brands feel the need of a date ,especially the 4 o clock one, there must be a marketing reason for that. Or they must conduct a demographic study on the watch buying population and the ONLY THING THAT BUYERS WANT must be a bloody date o

It seems that there are a lot of people for who a date is important, my friend.

I discussed that point with severzl brands, and they all gave me the same answer. It is good to be in the Minority! :) Best, Nicolas

Isn t that strange though..

I refuse to believe that its SOOOOO important for SOOO many people.....I don t get it,If you get to the point to consider to spend a lot of money for a GP or a UN that means that at least you like watches a little bit,at that point ,what do you care if the date is not there and the watch is much nicer....Why do you need to know the date at any cost, like you lived in a desert island.... Its like Ferrari had a ski compartment on the roof......just because many people like to have it..... Still sha

It is important for me, dear Mo ...

... and when we will meet in Basel, you will find me being rather confused, since I am wearing a date-less watch right now. I have real difficuties in everyday life, without a date display on my watch, since I hate fiddling with my large smartphone, taking it out of its case, only to check for the date. The 4:30 position of the date has a long tradition, and it is the only way to have a date without interfering with a counter or the 12 o'clock position. Best regards, Marcus
