Cpt Scarlet introduces the Unimatic x Massena LAB U1-ML6, a limited-edition dive watch that quickly sold out. This article delves into the unique design choices, particularly the hand-applied lume and galvanic bath-aged dial, which aimed to evoke a vintage aesthetic. Cpt Scarlet invites the community to discuss the watch's merits and distinctive features.

Massena LAB have just launched the U1-ML6.
The watch has been designed as a classic dive watch from the 1950s and is depth rated at 300m and uses a Seiko NH35A movement. The case is 41.5mm.

The interesting part is that the lume has been applied by hand on a dial that has been aged using a galvanic bath. This process changes the dial from black to various shades of “vintage” brown. No two dials will be exactly the same with a limited production of 99 watches.

Personally, I think that the design of the crown guards detract from the overall design, however the engraved case back is a nice touch.

Love it or hate it It’s an interesting project and I would like to hear the thoughts within our community about this watch.

Update: All 99 are sold.

characterful watches if a bit thick. But this one, that lume is troublesome. Otherwise, nice enough and an interesting concept, to me.

Can you say anymore about why you don’t like the lume ?

It is what seems to be the "puffiness" to match aged lume. As you said, though, interesting project and I did seriously consider it when I got the email.

If it wasn’t this, then it was pretty darn close.
