📖 About This Reference

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak reference 15400ST represents a pivotal chapter in the evolution of the iconic Royal Oak collection, serving as the successor to the legendary 15300 series. Introduced as part of Audemars Piguet s ongoing refinement of Gérald Genta s revolutionary 1972 design, the 15400 maintained the essential DNA of the original Jumbo while incorporating modern manufacturing techniques and proportions. This reference stands as a testament to the maison s commitment to preserving the Royal Oak s distinctive aesthetic language while adapting it for contemporary wearers, bridging the gap between the collection s storied past and its continued relevance in haute horlogerie. At the heart of the 15400ST beats the manufacture Caliber 3120, a self-winding movement that exemplifies Audemars Piguet s in-house expertise. This 21-jewel caliber operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides a robust 60-hour power reserve, featuring a 22-carat gold rotor and meticulous finishing throughout. The movement s architecture showcases traditional Swiss craftsmanship with its circular graining, Geneva stripes, and polished bevels visible through the exhibition caseback. The time-only configuration emphasizes the caliber s pure horological focus, delivering reliable timekeeping within the iconic 41mm stainless steel case. Design-wise, the 15400ST exemplifies the Royal Oak s signature aesthetic codes: the octagonal bezel secured by eight hexagonal screws, the Grande Tapisserie guilloché dial pattern, and the integrated bracelet construction. The silver dial provides optimal legibility while highlighting the collection s distinctive hour markers and luminous-filled hands. Protected by sapphire crystal and rated to 50 meters water resistance, the watch balances everyday wearability with luxury positioning. Among collectors, the 15400ST occupies a significant position as one of the final time-only Royal Oak references before the introduction of the current 15500 series, making it increasingly sought-after as a modern classic that captures the essence of Audemars Piguet s most celebrated design.

10 years with my AP 15300 (and it's been bullet proof)
Audemars, and in particular the 3120 in-house movement, is sometimes criticized as being a bit finicky and unreliable. I have to disagree. It’s now been 10 years (bought it new in box) with my 15300 and it’s been absolutely bullet proof without and issues and is within COSC specs despite never being

15450 Advice Please
Hi All, Considering the 15450 which would be my first foray into AP. I've tried it on and think the 37mm suits me better than the 41mm. However, is it likely that the 15450 may be getting replaced anytime soon, much like the 15500 replacing the 15400? Also, I think there was a big price increase in

AP Royal Oak 15300
Am I the only one who prefers this to the RO 15400? The dial layout is more balanced, and the movement is not “undersized.” Best, Ian

Worth it to sell my 15400ST blue dial and get a 15202ST?
I have a 15400ST blue dial and have an itch to get the 15202ST blue dial. I have an opportunity to sell my 15400 for 26k and then add 10k cash — is this worth it? Would you do it? I have a large 7” wrist so the 41mm 15400 does wear perfectly on me. Thanks for your thoughts

My quest has been finished.
A couple of years ago I tried to source a 15202. I was 'on the list' (fooly me) and patiently waited. After I understood that it was not going to happen and I didn't want to pay the premium, I looked for alternatives. But both the 15400 and the new 15500 seemed large to me. So I was after the 15300,
