The RARE IWC 1959 Ingenieur , ref 766AD
SIMPLY ONE OF THE BEST AVAILABLE for the serious collector.
The IWC Ingenieur comes in many models and variations but none so rare or beautiful as the 766AD 14ct gold / steel screw back model of 1959 belonging to the first series production
The automatic movement 8531, 10½ lingnes Centre seconds, is part of the cal 85 family, renowned for its Pellaton winding system.
Antimagnetic to 80,000A/m, protected by a Faraday soft iron antimagnetic cage, and originally water resistant to 10 atm.
The rare 766AD came with a silvered (and occasionally even rarer, black,) dial, covered by a plexi glass.
The case is 36.5mm in diameter, 13.2mm height. The screw back case is satinised in the centre and polished on the outer rim giving a very attractive finish to the watch. In the 1960’s the reference number was briefly called the 87661, base ref 666A.
Recent overhaul at Schaffhausen together with high quality professional revision of the original dial cost over £800 and it comes with full guarantee card and Stammbuchauszug ( extracts from the old IWC ledgers as to authenticity). All vintage watches have to be formally inspected at Schaffhausen now before a certificate of authenticity is granted.
