IWC Big Pilot s Watch (Original B-UHREN)

I have for sale an original 1940 IWC Big Pilot given to me by my father 20 years ago. He is now 92. He acquired the watch somewhere in Germany in 1945 after the fighting had ended: It could have been Berlin or somewhere in the Harz mountains when his little party found a box of watches in the offices of whichever German airfield/camp they were sorting through. The C.O. having probably secured what he thought was the best wristwatch for himself let the lads help themselves to the remainder! My father recalls the Big Pilot having a long canvas strap which he inappropriately secured around his knee and walked away with it, much to the merriment of his colleagues! So prosaic! So he didn't saw a German pilot's arm off or find a limb hanging from tree after witnessing a dog-fight. As to the watch's general condition: The case has not been lacquered. There are a couple of scratches where the case has been opened. A retaining screw is missing, probably lost when the winding stem was repaired by The Obsolete Watch Co. in the 1970's. There is some radium missing from both the minute and hour hands. It keeps very good time. It has lovely original patination.
