FS: Extremely Rare and Authenticated IWC Mark X Pilot’s Watch with NATO Dial & Extra IWC Dial
There may be a handful left in the world. And they are getting harder to find. Do your searching, finding one for sale is nearly impossible. Finding one in this condition is improbable. And you can be sure this is genuine and certified by IWC.
In it’s glorious military history, some of the IWC Mark Xs were removed from service, serviced, reclassified, and shipped out by the British Military (MoD) to NATO troops. What was changed was the dials and the backs were restamped from their original WWW to ATP (Army Time Piece). There are fewer than 20 Mark Xs with the NATO dial known to exist today. One is in the IWC Museum in Schaffhausen.
I have owned this 60-year old watch since 2000. (I once put it up for sale in 2003, but cancelled the sale). Late in 2005 I sent it to Schaffhausen for a year-long $1000 spa treatment. (overhaul, new crown, subseconds hand, crystal) I asked them for a new “regular” IWC Mark X dial to have a spare. Unfortunately IWC does not have any more Mark X dials in the “pharmacy.” However, they were nice enough to have one completely made from scratch for me. You will also receive that dial.
When they removed the original hands from the watch for service, the tritium (maybe radium) crumbled to dust and the old hands distintegrated. So this watch has new tritium hands. The NATO dial is original from issue. The watch, featuring a period authentic IWC buckle is on a fixed-bar Hirsch strap.
The watch, though never worn by me, is now running flawlessly and the provenance is substantiated by both IWC and Maurice Henry’s wonderful webpages on the Mark X.
Mark X WebpagesThe time has come for me to pass this wonderful piece of history on to another collector.
The price including the watch, the extra Mark X dial, all paperwork, is $4500USD including Domestic overnight, insured shipping. Wire or Money Order. Paypal is acceptable as long as the buyer pays all fees.
