Vintage 1913 International Watch Company 14k gold 48mm pocket watch with calibre 73 movement.
My elderly aunt has asked me to help her sell some vintage watches from her late husband’s collection. I’m no expert on this particular watch, or pocket watches in general but here are some details I’ve gathered:
The mechanism is a 16-jewel calibre 73 finger-bridge pin-set movement. The movement is engraved with serial number 584280.
The gold galloche dial includes an inset second hand on it’s own dial. The outer dial has black roman numberals for every hour with the “6” cut-off by the bottom of the second-hand arc. The hour and minute hands are Breguet style blued steel.
This timepiece has dual hinged back case.
The inside of the outer case is polished gold stamped with the following hallmarks: crown in a circle, 14k gold shield and IWC “Probus Scafusia” hallmarks. It is also stamped with the case serial number “651124”.
The outer surface of the inner case cover is polished 14k gold engraved with “INTERNATIONAL WATCH CO SCHAFFHAUSEN.” The inside of the inner case is 14k gold and burnished in a circular pattern. It includes the same hallmarks and serial number as the outer case.
I suspect that this watch was purchased sometime in the 1970s or 1980s and doubt that it was used often. The watch is running well but there are no service details and no documentation or boxes.
