Omega RAF Pilot 1953

Hello for sale my Omega RAF Pilot 1953 watch, ref. CK2777-1. This is what is called the military “Fat-arrow” 53 Pilot, referring to the dial variation. Full history of this watch (only ordered and produced in 1953) and dial variations can be found in Zaf Basha’s website:

The watch has a nice presence on the wrist, and it is one that can be easily be used every day, a truly nice watch. I am enclosing a black braided strap and a brown leather Smiths straps for closed lugs. Movement is the famous cal. 283, it is in excellent conditions and keeps perfect time (but do no know when was last serviced). The watch is complete of the dustcover (which closes the Faraday cage making it amagnetic as required by the MOD), the doo-hickey (a thin ring needed to avoid rattling by the dustcover) and the large unsigned crown as specified by MOD. The dial is perfect, except for peripheral signs of past water damage at 1-2 (invisible when the watch is closed). All the speckles visible in the picture are in fact only dust on the outside, highlighted by the incident light. The watch has been worn in the past with a NATO strap, and shows signs of corrosion in the inside of the lugs, probably due to muck and sweat. Corrosion must have also extended to the back, as this has been over-enthusiastically consumed by some watchmaker in the past. This resulted in a clean, nearly pristine back, but also to the partial disappearance of the assignment - still totally visible, but very thin/shallow in some areas, and certainly not deeply engraved as it was in the past. I have tried to find a substitute case and back, but it is impossible to find. Because of this imperfection, I am going to ask gbp 1050 ( USD 1580 equivalent) - plus shipment. I will only accept bank transfer and can ship RMSD in the UK, but could use an insured carrier for abroad. Please let me know of any questions you may have . Franco
