Omega Square ref. 3950-3 (aka "Cioccolatone") - REDUCED PRICEFor sale my Omega ref 3950-3, steel case. Omega started production of this reference in 1951 up to 1954, with squared case in 18K gold and in steel, mostly for the French market.
In Italy this is also called Cioccolatone, i.e. big praline ( a Cioccolatino is a normal sized praline), for the generous dimensions of the square case (30.5 x 30.5 mm).
The case is not waterproof, although the sides were soldered in zinc to help keep out the moisture. This case has wonderfully stylized horned lugs and is very elegant in my opinion.
It is a symmetrical 30.5 x 30.5mm without crown or lugs, or 40mm long including the lugs. Case is in superb conditions except for two light dings on the back.
The watch features an in house Omega caliber 342 bumper automatic movement with subsidiary seconds that has just been completely overhauled in September 2017 by my tuscan Master Watchmaker (A.U., ex- Audemars Piguet). The serial number of the movement dates it to 1952.
Crystal is a square-domed hesalite plexy, very difficult to find in great conditions, let alone as Omega furnture.
Dials came in different flavours, honeycomb, black, or cream like this one. This one is not seen very frequently, and it is very elegant IMHO with the leaf hands. A real pleasure to have on the wrist.
