Description

Up for sale is this amazing 1950s Omega Constellation in Steel and 14k Pink Gold cap with original and gorgeous black honeycomb guilloche ACOC “Crosshair” dial & matching luminous hands. This example is similar to the Elvis Presley watch in the upcoming Antiquorum auction but is probably more scarce, being produced earlier and also possessing the engine turned quarter Arabics dial. I don't have to explain to true Constellation aficionados just how rare a combination of desirable features this fantastic watch possesses. The gorgeous black Crosshair dial is absolutely Near Mint and the watch as a whole is easily in Excellent vintage condition. To put the cherry on top of the sundae, the early full rotor automatic movement has also been fully overhauled and will come with a 6-month guarantee for all normal, non-abusive use.

The asking price for this elite example of classic Omega Constellation is $2,450 USD, which includes fully insured shipping worldwide. Payment by Bank Wire or Paypal eCheck preferred. Payment by standard Paypal instant transfer also OK with split fees (+2% to the buyer). Other payment options upon application. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE: Classic early/mid-1950s "horn" lug case in 14k yellow pink gold cap over stainless steel measures an elegant 34mm x 42mm. There are some minor marks from wear some residual scratches to the case lip from opening attempts, which is common on the pressure fit models--still easily Excellent vintage condition. The pink gold bezel itself is near perfect and definitely not over polished.

CASEBACK: The outer caseback has a few minor scuffs but the famous Observatory logo in 14k PG is super crisp. The CONSTELLATION and WATERPROOF nomenclature are a bit worn away, particularly the latter, but are still visible on close inspection. The caseback fits in the case so tightly I couldn't open it after getting back from my watchmaker! By my strict grading standards, the external caseback is easily Excellent.

DIAL & HANDS: Absolutely Near Mint original black curved guilloche “Crosshair” dial with hand-riveted pink gold faceted delta markers and numerals for 3, 6, 9 & 12, applied omega symbol and star, with all original luminous dots intact. I say Near Mint instead of Mint because under high magnification, I am able to detect one or two minor rub marks to the engine turned finish. But you really have to look very hard for this even with a 14x loupe. Needless to say, it looks damn near perfect on the wrist. All original factory printed dial nomenclature is present in matching pink gilt. The Pink Gold Dauphine hands and sweep seconds are Excellent with some abrasions but corrosion free and with all original luminous fill intact. In a word: Stunning!

CROWN: Original (I believe) signed Omega knurled pink gold-plated winding crown. The crown winds and pulls out to the time-setting position as it should.

CRYSTAL: Low-domed acrylic crystal in Near Mint condition with just a few light scratches. As there is no Omega symbol in the center, I assume the crystal is generic.

MOVEMENT: While I would dearly have loved to open this watch to take pictures of the movement, both for prospective buyers and for my own archives, I was not comfortable trying to force off the very tight pressure fit water resistant back. I have just talked to my watchmaker, however, and he provided me with the following info: 20-Jewel caliber 503 full rotor auto movement, movement serial # 15,22x,xxx (ca. 1956) and inner caseback model reference # 2852-7SC. The movement has been fully serviced and is guaranteed for 6 months of normal, non-abusive use.

STRAP: This great Connie comes on a brand new Hirsch gray/black leather "Crocolook" strap with generic gold tone buckle. This watch takes 18mm lug width straps.

I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form.

This great Vintage Omega Constellation is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
T.

Do you have a watch from the year you were born?
Watches made before the year 2000 may not accurately reflect the year they were assembled due to lack of focus by manufacturers. Experts suggest that the production year can be off by 1 or 2 years. Owning a watch made in the same year as a grandchild is cherished. Passing it on is a plan.
