PAM 172 Tantalum "F" Series made in a limited production of 300 units.
Made of a very unique precious metal named tantalium (Panerai chose to use the tantalum), it has a deep grey with blue overtones making it rich and masculine in appearance. The case has a brushed finish with a contrasting polished bezel, the black dial and blued hands make this one of the most handsome Panerai watches ever produced. This is 100% authentic watch and almost did not have the scratch wound. Comes only with complete original box/papers (I didn't have the receipt paper purchased).

📖 About This Reference

The PAM172 represents Panerai's exploration of alternative case materials within the Luminor collection, distinguished by its use of tantalum construction. This reference positions itself as a material-focused variant that departs from the brand's typical steel and precious metal offerings. The 44mm case is crafted entirely from tantalum, paired with a black dial. The tantalum construction provides this reference with distinct material properties compared to conventional case metals, offering collectors an alternative to standard Luminor variants. This reference appeals to collectors seeking material diversity within the Panerai lineup, particularly those drawn to the technical aspects of tantalum as a case material. The PAM172 serves collectors who value the Luminor case architecture but desire something beyond the typical material offerings in the series.

Many moons ago, a 172
Wish I held on to this PAM. The tantalum color was gorgeous. Despite this wonderful case material, the watch was not as heavy as advertised. Like with almost all PAMs, I would prefer a solid caseback. But it was a very cool release at the time, and no doubt got a few hearts pumping.

Do you guys think Panerai will make more Tantalum watches such as the PAM172?
The PAM172, a special edition from 2003, was Panerai's first tantalum watch. Asi posted a fabulous picture of the PAM172 a while back ago here (see below pic). You can see the unique grey color of the tantalum case. And the blue hands contrasts beautifully with the tantalum case! PAM172 photo credit

Reconstituting my Panerai collection
Folks, After a number of years, I decided to sell my small panerai collection and focus on other things... but the time may have come to reconstitute my collection. I wanted to get opinions from esteemed paneristi with a few caveats: 1. No tritium... I know... sacrilege! but I'm not chasing after pr

ok, so here's the idea that hits my mind .... I'd like to put some blue hands on my 195, making it look like the Tantalium 172 of course I would keep the original hands .... what do you think ?? Any idea if this a hard shop to do for a watchmaker ??

Request for opinions
Folks, Recently, I sold all of my Panerais (used to have 233, 292j, 172, 104, 240, 332, 305, etc.) to focus my collection on select PPs, FPJs, and ALS. Recently, I strayed from my strategy and got an AP ROO bumblebee (it's wicked)... which got me thinking of getting just one (or two) PAMs. Yes, I ju
