The first watch from Parmigiani Fleurier to demonstrate both the flair and fully in-house prowess of the new maison.
This is the spectacular Ionica 8-Day in rose gold and an anthracite hand-guilloché dial. Its two-step knurled bezel was a handmade signature of early PF, and has since been much simplified. Opulent Breguet numerals and javelin hands round out this as unmistakably PF.
As striking as the watch is from the front and sides, it's calibre PF 110 that is the star of the show. This was Michel Parmigiani's own creation, after spending two years in the mid-1990s helping LUC deliver its landmark 1.96. It demonstrates his supreme command of the art history of watchmaking, and the highest levels of technical expertise. The PF 110 is a stunning piece of work, with a power reserve of 196 hours - ergo eight days - and eight sharp interior angles (see the fourth photo below - stock image).
This watch listed for CHF28,500 twenty years ago. There is arguably not another comparable high horology piece available under US$50,000 today.
The watch is in *mint* cosmetic condition. It is fitted to its original lightly word PF alligator strap, and its original buckle.
Also included as complementary in this sale is a copy of the remarkable catalogue of 1998. This was Parmigiani Fleurier's first full roster of wristwatches and a signal debut that featured the Ionica alongside more than 30 other references.
