The
following is an exquisite example of a MINT Patek Philipe 5050R Rose Gold
Perpetual Calendar. This example comes
complete with outer box (in very good condition, no shelf wear on box no excessive
wear on corners), winding box (in very good condition), and all papers
including certificate and manuals.
From
a time before Patek Philippe watches were mainstream and before the large watch
craze, the 5050 has a size of 36mm, a size that looks highly dignified on
individuals with both smaller and larger wrists. The 5050 is a symbol of an era where gentlemen wore discreetly sophisticated timepieces when elegance was the unspoken rule.
The
5050 possesses Patek Philippe’s special retrograde date perpetual calendar
movement with automatic winding. This
intelligent watch owes its ability to a wheel with 48 recesses, one for each
month in a leap year cycle. A cam reads
the depth of the recess; four distinct recesses convey to the cam that it is a
31, 30, 29, or 28 day month. The retrograde
mechanism that resets the date hand to the 1st every month is a
complication in itself, since it has to move the date hand at high speed. The hand itself is powered by its own
remontoir spring and is a challenge to fine tune and adjust. The upper level watchmaker must ensure that
the change is done as close to midnight as possible. Each watch also undergoes double assembly at
the factory, most of the movement decorations are done after the first assembly
to reduce scratches from assembly and fine adjustment.

This particular 5050 is offered by an owner who has owned it for over ten years. The owner has multiple timepieces in rotation
and this watch has been worn only a few times in the past decade. It is being represented by a long-time WatchProSite

never been worn. No dings nor dents are
present on the watch. Watch appears to
have been very gently professionally polished by an expert polisher. The bezel is in PERFECT condition. The sapphire crystal has no chips nor
scratches and is in PERFECT condition.
The strap is in excellent condition, still flat, and the clasp has no
scratches. This watch is in much better
than any other 5050 I’ve seen that has come to auction, many of which have
multiple scratches. The watch also comes
with its full box and paper set, of which all are in very good condition.
