📖 About This Reference

The Patek Philippe reference 5070, part of the Complications collection, marked a significant return for the brand to large-format chronographs. Introduced in 1998, it was the first non-perpetual calendar chronograph produced by Patek Philippe since the reference 1463, which ceased production in the early 1960s. Its design drew inspiration from a unique Patek Philippe aviator's watch from the 1940s, characterized by its prominent case and dial layout, yet reinterpreted for a contemporary audience. This reference established a new aesthetic direction for the brand's chronographs, moving towards more substantial case dimensions. The watch features a 42mm case, initially offered in 18k yellow gold, housing the manual-winding Caliber CH 27-70. This movement, based on a Nouvelle Lémania ébauche, was extensively finished and modified by Patek Philippe, meeting the brand's stringent quality standards. It provides a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. The dial, in this specific configuration, is black, protected by a sapphire crystal, and the watch is water-resistant to 30 meters. The fixed bezel frames the dial, and the watch is typically fitted with a leather strap. Reference 5070 appeals to collectors interested in modern Patek Philippe chronographs that combine traditional movement architecture with a more contemporary case size. Its limited production run and the subsequent introduction of variants in other precious metals contribute to its collectibility. The reference represents a distinct period in Patek Philippe's chronograph history, bridging vintage inspirations with a new era of larger watch designs.

At that price I suspect you will definitely be ' minding it for the next generation ' .

comment You don't actually own a patek....you merely looking for the big big profit
Skyline Sep 20, 2008
comment How is this any different from sellers asking $180K for the 5970G ?? - retail was $103,500 and production was longer.

comment I hope Mr Stern sees this one and removes the AD. This is vary sad.
dayman Sep 20, 2008
comment I agree that some of the AD s are doing really bad and behave badly.
The watch never goes to the hand of real lovers.

comment How is this any different from sellers asking $180K for the 5970G ?? - retail was $103,500 and production was longer ??? ( Skyline ) .
5970 is discontinued , 5070P is a newly released current production model just starting to arrive at the stores . The original purchaser hasn't even collected it from the dealer but offered it for immediate resale , thus , one suspects it was ordered solely as a profit making exercise , denying the watch to someone who could be a genuine purchaser . At least one other website would have banned this person for life for posting such an advert , and rightly so .
Skyline Sep 21, 2008
comment I see your point. You are absolutely right. I was merely commenting on the pricing - as it seems to be in keeping with many discontinued models.
VIP Sep 21, 2008
comment Yes maybe we should elect you as our giver of genuine purchasers. The price is firm. No one has a gun to your head to buy it at any price. In essence this post is inherently for the lovers, afficandos, purveyors, collectors, and students of exceptional haute horology such an extremely rare piece. Personally this is piece is worth any dowry her beloved would render. It is in my pleasure to admire and rudely offensive for you to ridicule and price jest apparently at your pleasure. Awkwardely, ive seen the other website ban posts like yours for group rip contentious and ignominious remarks. The waiting list for this piece at an AD will price this piece well above the asking. Wait in line if you appreciate the time spent or pay the Premium, take your artifact, watch the times.

comment " The watch will be shipped from my dealer". I am not interested, thanks. But I am interested in the name of your dealer whom will be shipping the watch to the potential buyer. I would love to have a few words with that person.

comment ***IF YOU ARE NOT GENUINELY INTERESTED TO PURCHASE THIS PIECE PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE A REMARK** THANK YOU.

comment Are you yourself "the Authorised Dealer"?
amb963 Sep 22, 2008
comment Maybe the SEC should come in and bail out the true collecters who dont get a 5070P at retail. Maybe we should ban making a profit on Pateks just like short sales in stocks. Things are worth what people will pay but just like anything it only takes 1 buyer to set the market. Plus the banter between the have nots and the seller are funny.

comment i like funny. its honestly an amped destresser.

heres some fun, how bout makin me a fair offer?
eric.vonschonberg Sep 24, 2008
this is actually bogus Take a look at the guys user ID,and check out EBay.  This guy is constantly offering for sale complicated watches he claims to own.   I wonder if he is trying to get some naive person to wire him cash.

comment Thanks Eric Vonschonberg for the much to do insight (...and the added plug in..)

Simultaneously i am confident that lovers of this piece are keen on due diligence taken before any such purchase. Available as always are international references from eBay and beyond.

Maybe you'd like to raise your wager, if i have in fact sold one or more these complicated watches i so candidly claim , then you vow to buy this piece at asking?

Any witnesses? I indeed hope this is in the spirit of the community?

comment I honestly think much of the anger here is just misplaced jealousy. This is a very coveted piece. The perfect Patek, it has all the elements that make a Patek so desirable. I honestly think your price is fair. Perhaps even cheap. In a year or two I could see this watch selling in the 230k range, Maybe 280k. Last of the Lemanias in a Platinum case - the folks ridiculing you will wish they bought it. I would pay you 150k right now if I didn't have one coming in two weeks. Absolutely true.
