Patek Philippe Grand Complications 5059

Ref. 5059 is the descendant of the ref. 5050 which was produced in the 1990s. Ref. 5059 features a perpetual calendar, retrograde date display, leap year and phrases of the moon. All complications are laid out nicely in an attractive and clear dial. Dimensions of the watch are 36mm x 12.8mm in three parts. Admittedly a diameter of 36mm may be considered a little small by today's standards but its thickness makes up for it and the watch actually fits nicely and comfortably on one's wrist. The latest Ref. 5159 (at 38mm) though is slightly larger than the 5059, many find the centre of its dial excessive........Conversely the Ref. 5059's porcelain white dial renders a good vintage feel. Roman numerals indicates the hours, whilst the minutes and seconds track on 2 smaller outer chapter rings. 3 apertures at 9, 12 and 3 o'clock display the day, leap-year, and month respectively. The date is shown on an inner chapter ring through a retrograde hand. Moon phase display at 6. Beating inside Ref. 5059 is the highly reliable Calibre 315/136 movement, stamped with the prestigious Geneva Seal. The watch is presented in an "Officer" (half- hunter) case which features a hinged caseback where one can open and appreciate the beautiful movement. Offering here is my mint Ref. 5059 in yellow gold with original Patek Philippe leather strap and 18K deploy ant clasp. Watch was first sold in 2002 and I am the second owner. Since it is part of a quite substantial collection, it hardly has any time on my wrist and most of the time has been on the automatic winder. Watch is in a mint condition with almost no scratches. It comes with an Extract from Patek Philippe's Archives. It is to be noted that Ref. 5059 is not as collectible as its predecessor 5050 yet, hence its price tag is much lower than the Ref. 5050. However, this ref. is increasingly becoming a "must have" for many collectors. My price for this collectible iconic Patek Philippe is USD 42,000.
