Description

Up for sale is this seldom seen reference 1005 Oyster Perpetual Chronometer in solid 18 karat Yellow Gold with its original engine turned "bark" texture dial and exceedingly rare 18k Rolex brick link bracelet with matching bark texture in overall Excellent+ vintage condition. With a case Serial Number of 2.8 million, this Oyster Perpetual dates from the early 1970s. The heavy gold case is very thick and the scarce bracelet is super tight. From what I understand, the square-“C” beneath the lug and the "D'A" stamp on the clasp blade indicate South American production and I was told that this watch originated from there, so that would seem to corroborate its origins. Additionally, the classic cal. 1570 automatic movement has just been fully serviced by my Master Watchmaker and will come with a 6-month movement guarantee for all normal, non-abusive use. If you are a lover of Gold Rolex models, this is one you won't likely see on anyone else's wrist!

The asking price for this rare 1005 Gold OP on its even more unusual original bracelet is $7250 USD including fully insured shipping worldwide. Payment by Bank Wire only on this watch please. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE & BEZEL: Heavy solid 18-karat gold case measures the classic gents dress size of 34mm x 40mm but would also be quite sexy on the fashionable, confident lady. This 1005 looks to have been polished once but very lightly, as the lugs are nice and thick. The sides have only the most minor scratches and there are no dings. The correct gold fluted bezel is also very crisp with only the most minor signs of age. All told, this case and bezel are easily in Excellent to Near Mint overall vintage condition--a really beautiful survivor that looks to have been rarely worn. The circa 1970-71 serial number and reference number are quite legible between their respective lugs and the case is correctly hallmarked for gold with an "18k" stamp beneath the top left lug and the maidenhead beneath the top right lug. Note also the square-"C" hallmark which is widely thought to indicate Caracas, Venezuela importation during this era.

CASEBACK: The outer caseback has some minor scratches and one or two nicks to the knurling, so Excellent cosmetic condition overall. Inner caseback is free of corrosion and is correctly stamped with its 1005 reference number, 18k gold hallmarks and has all the other correct Rolex nomenclature of the era.

DIAL & HANDS: Original factory printed gold dial with very cool machined "bark"-type pattern with gold bar markers and Tritium lume dots. The lume has a greenish cast and a very faint glow after light exposure but I believe this is characteristic of the era and that it is original. This is one of those special Rolex dials that change in the light as you move it on your wrist and the unique texture reflects back at you. There is some light spotting to the finish around the 9 quadrant and some of the lume dots have expanded and deformed with age but this dial is easily in Excellent unrefinished and factory printed condition. The matching luminous gold Stick hands and baton sweep seconds are likewise Excellent with only minor signs of aging.

CROWN: Gold Twinlock screws down tightly, winds properly and hack-sets the time smoothly.

CRYSTAL: Original domed acrylic crystal is chip & crack free and has only some residual scratches from past use, Excellent condition.

MOVEMENT: This 1005 features Rolex's legendary cal. 1570 26-jewel automatic Chronometer-grade movement with an early appearance of the hacking feature. As stated above, this iconic Rolex movement has just been fully overhauled by my NYC Master Watchmaker for years more of faithful service. It is running strong, keeping great time and is guaranteed against any problems for 6-months of normal, non-abusive use.

BRACELET: What really sets this watch apart from the herd is the amazing original 18k brick link bracelet with distinctive bark-type pattern. According to newly provided information the "D'A" stamp is by the Venezualan Rolex-authorized maker D'Agosto (thanks marco-franky! smile). It is highly unusual to encounter one of these non-standard Rolex bracelets in this sort of tight, healthy condition--its no exaggeration to rate the condition as Near Mint with only minor scratches to the clasp. This bracelet has a 19mm lug width and should fit up to around a 7 3/4" wrist and down to about 6 3/4". As the old saying goes: Find me another!

I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form.

This classic 100% guaranteed authentic Rolex Oyster Perpetual Chronometer is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get back the watch in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
T.

Introducing my new (to me) GMT Master 1675, dating all the way back to 1966 😎
Acquired a vintage 1675 GMT-Master with black bezel from 1966. Although it has a replacement dial from the eighties, it is a forum favorite with domed acrylic crystal, sharp lugs, and jubilee bracelet. Prefers dial font.
