Description

From my own personal collection, I am offering for sale a stunning 1979 ref: 1665 White Sea-Dweller with RARE "MK1" dial.

Sea-Dweller History:

The Rolex 1665 Sea-Dweller was originally developed in 1967. At the time, Rolex incorporated all their latest technology with the objective of producing the Best Deep Sea Diving Watch on the market.

One such important break-through was the development of the Helium Escape Valve (no need to elaborating on the benefits of this technology).  The SD was the first commercially produced watch for deep sea saturation.  However, given that the SD was purchased primarily by professional scuba, and recreational divers, it was not a  commercial success, thus production was somewhat limited.

The Sea-Dweller is considered by many serious vintage Rolex collector as the ultimate tool watch.  Aside from its incredibly robust case construction (15mm thickness), it exudes a timeless vintage charm, with rugged good looks.

The Rolex ref: 1665 was originally produced with Red Lettering (DRSD) with a production run from 1967-1978.

The 1665 White Sea-Dweller , referred by may Rolex collectors as the Great White had a very short production run approx. 1978-1982 (Antiqorum, Mondani collection, actually states  1980, as the last year of production, but I suspect it was a bit later).  Notwithstanding, the Great White had a very short production period relative to the DRSD.

This particular example comes with its original & highly coveted Mark 1 dial as exemplied by it lovely straight ft & m" depth rating .  Later White SD came with the Italic font depth rating (more common).

An absolutely stunning "Mk1 dial", which in years to come will continue to garner even higher demand by serious Rolex collectors for its rarity and beauty.

Dial:

100% Rolex original, PERFECT/FLAWLESS !!! dial, with the most amazing creamy vanilla hour markers, and  matching hands, original silver date wheel, with the highly coveted "Mk1 Dial"..By far the nicest WSD MK1 I have ever seen.

Case:

100% Rolex original, with beautiful thick/fat lugs. All serial/model numbers are 100 % clearly visible. Case back is stamped 1665.  Slightly faded Bezel insert (dark greyish color) is "thick font", with later replacement lumi pearl.

Bracelet:

100% Rolex original, 93150/580, in excellent condition.

Movement:

100% Rolex original, with period correct hacking feature, still shimmers, no corrision, and keeping good time (sorry, do not know when it was last serviced).

In summary:

Finding a White Sea-Dweller, is becoming more, and more difficult (seems to be a lot more DRSD for sale then WSD (if I had to guess at least 5 DRSD for  every I WSD).

This beautiful example with the highly coveted Mk1 dial should prove to be an excellent investment piece, and more importantly a stunning addition to any serious Rolex collection.

Gents, Riyadh Rolex AD advice please
Friend moving to Riyadh wants to visit Rolex ADs for steel GMT. Aware of local sensibilities and male dress code. Wondering if dressing better is advantageous. Unsure about visiting multiple locations or sticking to one.

Introducing my new (to me) GMT Master 1675, dating all the way back to 1966 😎
Acquired a vintage 1675 GMT-Master with black bezel from 1966. Although it has a replacement dial from the eighties, it is a forum favorite with domed acrylic crystal, sharp lugs, and jubilee bracelet. Prefers dial font.
