Description

For sale is my YG Ulysse Nardin Astrolabium Galileo Galilei. Once the most functionally rich watch in the world (per Guinness Book of Records), it’s also really intellectually and aesthetically satisfying, and this version in my view is the best.

The complexity of the Astrolabium is well documented – as well as legal and solar time, it is a perpetual calendar and has star chart, position of sun/moon (including sunrise/sunset/moonrise/moonset), eclipse prediction, zodiac indication and more. However, despite what people say, it’s actually quite easy to read the basic functions and the more complex features are still usable.

There are lots of versions of the AGG: different sizes (the Trilogy of Time version is bigger), metals, lug design, case-back, with or without day etc. I think the day elevates the perpetual calendar and usability and this version has the normal lugs, 18K yellow-gold case, 40mm case size and the all-important sapphire case-back so you can see the beautiful movement.

I've owned the watch since 2012. I’ve had it serviced, most recently at Watches of Switzerland in May 2022 (though it went back to Switzerland for that). Since the service I’ve only worn it a handful of times.

It comes with a simple UN box and is currently on a London dial but I also have the original dial, which I think is a NYC dial (UN didn’t originally want me to keep both, but relented so should be able to swap back if you aren’t from the UK and that’s a better fit).

Condition is very good: some very light swirls considering it’s an 80s/90s watch visible on the back but it’s clean on the wrist and the lacquer on the bezel is also in good condition. The dial is very reflective, which is fine in use (and looks great without being too bling) but makes it hard to photograph – the photo of the dial here therefore looks flat because it’s deliberately positioned to show the details, but it doesn’t look like that in the metal.

I’m selling as my eyesight means I can no longer read it or appreciate it properly. Price is firm at this stage. No trades, please. Watch and I are in UK.

New (to me) Tellurium Kepler - anyone want to check if I set it correctly?
Impulsively purchased a Trilogy of Time watch in Australia. Questioned if set correctly, sought verification from US west coast watch owners. Unsure due to time discrepancy in photos, still admired watch.

Ulysse Nardin Astronomical Watches: A step above the clouds.
The Astrolabium was the first to be launched, in 1985, while the Planetarium came in 1988 and the Tellurium, in 1992. The first Astrolabium ( I can't remember who to credit for this photo. sorry ) : The first Planetarium: And the Tellurium, which as you can see, had conventional lugs: Made of yellow

Ulysse Nardin Astrolabium in Yellow Gold.
Auctioned yesterday by Antiquorum, at the price of CHF 17500. A fascinating watch,, offering some unusual complications, in addition to the perpetual calendar: Time of the moonset / moonrise, sunset / sunrise, position of sun moon and stars above your head, among other informations. A watch from the

Quadruple of Astrology
(Sorry I couldn't come up with a better Trilogy of Time rip-off.) Woot! Woot! I've achieved one (of several) grail pieces. Woot! Woot! (Did I say that already?) This has been on my list for 7+ years ever since I learned about Mr. Oechslin and learned about the set. (My 2nd perpetual is a lovely old

A typical night in the suburbs
Three PuristS met and cut some cheese. They ate most of the cheese, along with a loaf of bread, half a salmon, some lamb chops, (plus vegetables and stuff) and drank 4 bottles of wine. They compared watches, shared a few stories, and went home. The end. Questions? This message has been edited by caz

Ulysse Nardin Astronomical Watches set.
I can't resist to the pleasure to share this picture coming from Ulysse Nardin and featuring the " Astronomical Set ". A picture I saved not a long time ago, which makes me dream each time I see it. A picture which drove me to work on a topic I will post before the end of the year about astronomical
