As most of you know, I got it back from Breguet's repair shop in time for my visit to my Dad. He loved the watch, and we had great fun comparing his Rolex President to my vastly more exclusive and beautiful watch.
When I got it back from Breguet, it looked like new. I don't know how, but they even got a deep scratch off the bezel. Apart from the time it took (a very disappointing 10 weeks), I had a few concerns. First, there was a tiny blemish at about 10:00 on the guilloche dial that simply wasn't there when I tendered it for repair. Second, the "Breguet" lettering on the new crown was noticeably less deeply engraved and less "boldface" than the old. And last, the old parts did not come back with the watch. I would have liked to have the old crown made into a charm for my wife's bracelet. I reconciled myself to all these things and went on my happy way with my stunning watch.
The one thing that I was LEAST expecting was for it to keep good time. I've had many mechanical watches, and I've come to expect errors on the order of minutes per day or
week.
Well, I set my Breguet using the NIST atomic clock on May 11, and by June 11, it had lost only 8 seconds. I was stunned. Wow.
Anyway, all went swimmingly until my vacation to Bald Head Island last week. I woke up, and my Breguet was frozen at 5:20 a.m. I wear it constantly and lead an active lifestyle, so there was no chance I hadn't been active enough to keep it wound. I assumed that the auto-winding mechanism, which was the cause of the first repair, was broken again. I wound the watch, and it hasn't stopped yet (about one week later).
Still, it shouldn't have stopped and I'm taking it back to the AD. Called them today and they said it's of course covered under the repair warranty. What I want is for it to be inspected and fixed QUICKLY and permanently.
I will keep you all informed.
