Watchprosite.com Discussion Board Code of Conduct

Updated September 18, 2025

Welcome to WatchProSite Discussion Forums

Welcome to WatchProSite, a community dedicated to celebrating excellence, quality, and integrity in the world of watches. We strive to pursue integrity and perfection in an imperfect world.

Core Principles

Integrity Matters

Do not use the forums to manipulate events for personal gain. Attempt to resolve service or quality issues offline before posting complaints. Moderators are available to assist. Present all sides of a situation fairly and respectfully.

No Gifts or Favors

Moderators and members must never accept gifts, discounts, or special favors from watch companies or watchmakers beyond what is offered to the general public or press. Maintain transparency and integrity in all dealings with brands.

Have Fun!

There are no dumb questions only questions waiting for answers. Enjoy the discussions and learn from others.

Posting Guidelines

  • Approval for Announcements: All official announcements, press releases, or self-promoting posts must be submitted to a moderator or admin (admin@watchprosite.com) for review before posting. Unapproved posts may be deleted without notice.
  • Stay On Topic: Keep discussions relevant to the brand or forum topic. Heritage, tradition, philosophy, and policies are welcome topics.
  • Respectful Tone: Be courteous and respectful in all interactions. Avoid discussions on politics, religion, ethnicity and other controversial or divisive non-horological subjects. Think of this as a virtual cocktail or dinner party with people you're meeting for the first time - don't write anything that you would not say to someone in person or have said to you. Inflammatory posts will be deleted, and repeat offenders may be banned. Report inappropriate posts to moderators instead of engaging in arguments.
  • Rule of Thumb: Word your posts as if they were directed at you. This includes posts directed at companies rather than individuals.
  • Price and Seller Discussions: Posts primarily focused on street/market prices or seller references must be reviewed by a moderator before posting. Connoisseurship is about more than just prices focus on the broader aficionado experience.
  • External Links: Links to non-commercial, relevant websites are allowed. Links to commercial sites (e.g., eBay, dealer sites) are prohibited and will be removed.
  • Respect Embargo Dates: Posts violating embargo dates will be deleted without notice.

Community Posting Guide

A few thoughts on how to create engaging threads and meaningful conversations.

1. Share Your Story, Not Just Your Watch

Collectors connect with people as much as they do with watches. When you post, tell us why a piece matters to you ? where you found it, what drew you in, or how it fits your collecting journey.

Example: "After years of thinking I'd never wear gold, I finally found a yellow-gold Tank that feels right."

A bit of context transforms a wrist shot into a conversation.

2. Use the "Show and Tell" Formula

Every collector enjoys a good reveal. Include clear wrist or macro shots, ideally in natural light. Mention the model, reference, and a little backstory. Invite reactions: "How do you feel about this reference?"

Threads that mix strong photography with a short story generally receive far more replies than quick snapshots.

3. Ask Open Questions

Instead of only showing, ask. End your post with an invitation that encourages replies:

  • "Which would you choose?"
  • "Have you ever owned something similar?"
  • "What's your experience with this movement?"

Questions turn a static post into a shared discussion.

4. Balance Information and Emotion

A good thread blends knowledge with enthusiasm. Share technical details: movement, complication, finishing. Also describe how it feels to wear or own the watch.

Don't hesitate to mention imperfections or doubts ? authenticity draws readers in.

5. Build Conversations, Not Just Threads

Engagement grows when the original poster interacts. Even a short acknowledgment such as "Thanks, that's a great point" keeps people coming back.

When possible, reply by name; the forum thrives on civility and personal connection.

6. Themes That Always Work

Some topics reliably invite insight, humor, and shared experience:

  • Comparisons: "Reverso vs Tank," "Speedmaster vs Seamaster," "L.U.C. vs Alpine Eagle"
  • Reflections: "What makes a watch timeless?" "Have you ever felt 'done' collecting?"
  • Vintage Spotlights: "Early Carreras," "Pre-war Breguet chronometers"
  • Event and GTG Recaps: "An evening with fellow collectors in Tokyo"
  • Lifestyle: "Weekend wrist shots," "Travel watch for Geneva?"

7. Keep It Friendly and Thoughtful

WatchProSite has always been more club than crowd. A courteous tone and genuine curiosity attract the most thoughtful responses.

If your post feels like a conversation around a table, it will be treated that way.

Final Thought

Posts that feel personal, curious, and visually engaging consistently receive the strongest response. The best threads are not lectures; they are invitations to share passion, experience, and perspective.

Thank you to everyone who contributes, replies, and keeps WatchProSite such a welcoming place to discuss our shared passion for watches.

Prohibited Activities

  • Self Promotion: Using the platform to simply direct traffic to your personal social media accounts.
  • Shilling: Misrepresenting or failing to disclose your interest in an item for sale is prohibited. Items listed in the Collectors Market must not be posted in other forums without moderator approval.
  • Unauthorized Get-Togethers (GTGs): GTG announcements are only allowed if WatchProSite staff are involved. Unauthorized posts will be deleted.
  • Replica or Fake Watches: Posting links, references, or images of counterfeit/replica watches is prohibited unless explicitly revealing a fake. Misrepresentation of authenticity will result in post deletion and potential bans.
  • Commercial Solicitation and Hidden Advertising: Any post primarily intended to promote or advertise commercial services (e.g., repair, retail, influencer activity) without prior moderator approval is prohibited.
  • Personal Data and Privacy: Do not post another member?s personal information (email, phone number, real name, etc.) without explicit consent.
  • Market Value and Pricing Discussions: Pricing information may be shared when it adds historical, technical, or comparative insight to a discussion. However, posts focused primarily on current market value, investment potential, or resale speculation should remain within the Collectors Market forum. Moderators may redirect or edit pricing content to keep discussions informative rather than commercial.
  • Off-Topic or Disruptive Conduct: Posts that provoke, derail, or repeat contentious debates unrelated to horology may be moderated or removed.
  • Image Copyright and Source Acknowledgment: Members should only post images they own or have permission to use, and should credit the source when appropriate.

AI Use Guidance

WatchProSite welcomes the responsible use of artificial intelligence to assist members in creating or refining content, as long as posts remain authentic, original, and personally informed.

  • Support, Not Substitution: AI may be used to organize ideas, improve clarity, or polish language, but posts should always express the author's own experience, opinions, and insights.
  • Personal Perspective First: Threads and replies should originate from the member's direct observation, ownership, or genuine interest in the topic. AI-generated background or summaries should enhance?not replace?your own perspective.
  • Authenticity Matters: Presenting AI-generated text or reviews as firsthand experience is not permitted. Posts should never fabricate ownership, handling, or opinions.
  • Transparency Encouraged: If AI tools were used to help compile data, summarize facts, or draft parts of a post, members are encouraged to acknowledge that assistance for clarity and trust.
  • Moderator Discretion: Moderators may edit or remove content that appears inauthentic, misleading, or inconsistent with these principles.

This guidance embraces new tools that enhance creativity and clarity while preserving the forum's longstanding focus on authenticity, personal experience, and mutual respect among collectors.

Moderation and Enforcement

  • WatchProSite reserves the right to edit or delete any post that violates these guidelines.
  • Repeated violations may result in a ban after due consideration.

Final Note

We're here to share our passion for watches in a respectful and enjoyable environment. Thank you for helping us maintain the highest standards of integrity and camaraderie.

Looking forward to your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions.
