I love the design of Breguet watches and have been a fan for some time. I?ve wanted one and thought my first one would be a Heritage or Classique model. That was until
the new Breguet Marine was introduced. When I first saw pictures of it I knew this could be my first Breguet and after I got to handle and inspect one, that sealed it for me.
The following is a review of my impressions after a couple of weeks of ownership.
The dial is beautiful. The guilloche is, as usual, excellently done. It is in a wave pattern and so nicely done that sometimes it looks like wrinkles in white satin.
The guilloche wave pattern is on a disk in the center of the dial and I believe it is white gold. The wave theme is repeated in the crown protectors and the rotor.
The applied Romans are blued and set in a sunken chapter ring that also contains the big date indication at 6.
The Breguet (what else?) hour and minute hands are blued and have luminous material in the tip openings.
There are small luminous dots on the outer edge of the hour markers. The second hand is perfectly slim with the off center counterbalance circle.

The stainless steel case is perfect and has the signature Breguet ribbing.

A different touch is the wave pattern, repeated again, as crown protectors. These are more decorative than functional.

The display back exposes a nicely decorated Breguet Cal 517GG movement and the crowning glory is the wonderfully
decorated rotor which again repeats the wave pattern in the shape and in the guilloche pattern.

The rubber strap and buckle/deployant fit this watch nicely. I initially put a leather strap on it and it looked great but after a day I realized that the rubber strap looked best for the look I want.
The rubber strap is supple but not too soft and fits nicely. The composition is just right. Its curved ends fit the case snugly.
It has a diamond like pattern on the outside and a wave (again with the waves) pattern on the inside of the band.
If I ever want to dress it up in the future, I can put a leather strap on it.

The buckle/deployant is large and has metal keepers! I was a little concerned that this arrangement would be too bulky for regular wear but it really isn?t.
The buckle is large and the Breguet name is engraved on it. This arrangement of buckle/deployant seemed strange initially but it really represents the best of both worlds
because the deployant could be removed and the buckle alone can be used if one wanted to do that.

After a couple of weeks of wrist time, I?m extremely satisfied with the Breguet Marine! It?s subtle upon first inspection but has complex detail after further investigation.
It has a casual elegance that works in any dress or casual setting and I feel comfortable wearing it in either. The overall weight is just right.
Not too heavy, not to light. The 41 X 11.85mm dimensions are perfect for me since I prefer larger watches.
This is, without question, a keeper.
