"Contemporary Watchmaking" by Michael Clerizo.

I have just received my copy of the "Contemporary Watchmaking" by Michael Clerizo. This 292 pages book is mainly about Georges Daniels, Svend Andersen, Vincent Calabrese, Philippe Dufour, Antoine Preciozo, Frank Muller, Aniceto Jimenez Pita, Alain Silberstein, Marco Lang, Roger Smith and Vianney Halter (about 20 pages per watchmakers). Another 50 pages are dedicated to Felix Baumgartner, Aaron Becsei, Nicolas Delaloye, Romain Gauthier, Paul Gerber, Robert Greubel & Steven Forsey, Richard Habring, Beat Haldimann, John & Stephen Mc Gonigle, Rainer Nienaber, Thomas Prescher, Daniel Roth, Stepan Sarpaneva, Peter Speake-Marin, Andreas Strehler, Christian Van der Klaaw, Kari Voutilainen and Volker Vyskocil. I have followed the making of the chapter dedicated to Vianney Halter and now I am discovering the whole book and the other chapters. The result is simply breathtaking : It don't say that only for being kind towards Michael. I am quite used to book about watchmaking but his goes deeper in the watchmakers' mind and explores their inspiration universes. Pictures are not simply those extracted from the press kits, texts were really written purposely for the book after long interviews with watchmakers. The kind of book that you cannot browse but have to read, taking your time. That is what I am going to do. Michael Clerizo will attend the Paris Belles Montres Show on Fri 27th and Sun 29th. No doubt he will be congratulated by the watchmakers he has so talentfully featured !
