6th Historic Monaco Grand Prix, 10-11 May 2008

"Gentlemen please start your engines"… With these words the 6th Monaco Historic Grand Prix officially started on May 10th under sunny skies. An important event in the field of classic and vintage motor sports, it is constantly gaining greater renown and prestige. For the fourth time running Chopard served as the official timekeeper at this two day, top-class circuit car race which attracted over 30'000 spectators and journalists from all over the world. In tribute to the race Chopard created a new exclusive chronograph that completes the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique collection. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard, had the great honour of presenting as a gift the series’ model number one to his highness Prince Albert II.

Chopard and the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique - a passionate relationship Since 2002, Chopard has been a partner of Monaco’s fabulous Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, where every two years, racing cars from the most sought-after collections go head-to-head on the Principality’s winding roads. This involvement is another sign of Chopard’s relationship with the world of classic cars and its profound respect for sporting excellence driven by passion and precision. The race, held two weeks before the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, will take place on the same legendary route, the 3.3 kilometre-long Monaco circuit, which has barely changed since its establishment on April 14th 1929. The Grand Prix de Monaco historique offers a retrospective of the Golden Age of Monaco car races. Over 200 drivers from 19 countries took part, driving exceptional “voiturettes” and Grand Prix cars dating from 1947 to 1978, in one of the seven series selected by the organisation. This race is undoubtedly the most popular circuit race for vintage cars.
In addition to his responsibilities as head of the 6th Monaco Historic Grand Prix, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s close friend Jacky Ickx presented to the public for the first time a genuine replica of the unique single seater racing car the “Auto Union C-type” built in 1936.
