The Sonata is one of these watches which I most often bring with me, during my trips.
Of course, because it is a friendly companion, with its " travel complications " such as the Alarm and the Dual Time.
Certainly also because it is a kind of romantic watch, the time keeper you want to bring with you when you're admiring the " Torre dell Orologio " in Venezia.
But the main reason is elsewhere. When you're on holidays, you take the time to think about your watches, to appreciate them, and, sometimes, sadly, to make an undisputable and cruel selection among them.
With the Sonata, it is an undiscontinued love story for a bit more than 7 years, now.
It never deceived me, it always surprised me.
Intellectually, the combination of complications,( Big Date, Alarm, Alarm Countdown, GMT ) is not only friendly, it is brilliant.
Aesthetically, it is not everyone's taste, its style being very particular, strong, absolutely not consensual, but how it could it be different with such a watch?
I, for one, appreciate the layout of the dial, with its big blue leaf hands, the partial decoration with Geneva Stripes, contrasting with the smooth parts.
I'm in heaven when it wakes me up, with its delicate melody.
I'm happy to be able to use it in a different time zone country, as well to have the possibility to set the date backward and forward, quickly.
I'm delected with its strong presence, once on the wrist.
And, on a more personal note, it became, with time passing, one of my fetish watches, one of those I wear when I have tough moments at work, when I know it will be difficult ( I know, it is a bit childish, but hey, we all have oiur personal tricks, don't we? ).
So, without further blabla, it is now time to let the holiday pictures speak- not too many, actually, as this is not the only watch I brought with me, and I wanted to avoid any repetition with the pictures I took during the past holidays- which will sum 3 or 4 nice moments.
First of all, honor to the Tradition, with my very personal " Roof Shots ", showing the dial in all its complex beauty, on an unusual but hot and magic background:
Then, the coffee shot, which is something you can't miss when you are in Italy, as this Country pays a true cult to coffee and watches.
And, last but not least, the road map , featuring 2 lovely towns and villages in Croatia: Buje, and Verteneglio, to enhance the fact that I consider the Sonata as MY ideal, perfect travel watch:
What can I say, to find a conclusion to this post?
Maybe that to me, it reflects all the genius, the spirit and the vision Rolf Schnyder had for this brand.
That is also a big reason for me to love this so special manufacture.
Best to All.
Nicolas.
