A quick spin in the Supra GR
Many of you probably know this Supra has a legendary 6 in line, but not the purist version, at least not for a Toyota.
No legendary 2JZ in here but the legendary BMW B58 engine.
First thing I noticed after take off was the weight, a lot of it unfortunately. The 8-speed ZF auto gearbox (not double clutch) feels a lot better with this petrol engine than with my 2 litre diesel back in the day.
The main disappointment was the sound, having experienced the N54 of the 1M years ago the GR Supra sounded a bit dull.
The driving and handling was fun enough to make me want to drive this car a lot, no doubt about that. But I think you'll never get the sheer excitement I had with the 1M, that car felt so much better.
Even though the GR Supra would probably a faster and easier car to drive fast than the 1M I classify it more as a grand sports tourer.
Compared to the Alpine A110 (I know, that's not fair) it is a WHOLE different story. Once one is acquitted with an A110 .... nothing else matters unless you can spend at least 250K.
Some pics to admire the beauty of the GR Supra .. yes in my opinion a lot nicer looking than the BMW, the old Supra or even the Alpine.

I've always felt like the supra cabin was a bit too claustrophobic for my taste. Between that and the fake vents it's a bit too much for me. A shame as I'm supposedly the target audience as a stick shift enthusiast.
I never drove one, I just read that it was super heavy. Some even made a comparative with the Alpine, and some tests, and what you wrote is in the same line than their opinion.
I was always attracted by this last one, though, for its engine and its lines. A strong and powerful design, with some sensuality. Now, I would not say that it is nicer than the Alpine. It is different, but not nicer. What you can compare with the A110 is...
True ! You can't compare it with the A110 ...
... but as I had just driven the A110 I couldn't but feel the weight :-( ... as if it was double of that.

Apparently it gets a tad more exciting in the manual version but it’s of course always going to be a grand tourer, when compared to the Alpine 😊🤷🏻♂️

A very nice looking one and probably pretty fast on a straight road. Also a lot of margin for upgrades, power can easily and cheaply go up to 500 hp. Maybe add a KW suspension and lighter wheels, lighter seats (why not?) and you probably have a different ...
