TimeOut

A rare afternoon walk

We went down the Silver Strand from Coronado, towards Imperial Beach, turned around and worked our way back up the peninsula. We ended up in a community known as Coronado Cays. There's a resort hotel there, and we walked around the spit of land it occupies, and up the beach.

A great place to live if you like boats, as many of the houses have docks in the front.

These guys were "surf fishing" without the pesky surf. This is the bayside of the peninsula.

Paddleboarding.

Believe it or not, this guy paddled a small surfboard miles across the bay. Notice the sunscreen on his face.

These guys used the credit card approach to get some Ski Doos and save themselves the trouble of paddling.

I was sporting my "vintage" GS Snowflake today

There were many beautiful flowers around the resort - some planted, some volunteers.

Not to mention this gorgeous green Jaguar.

And a beautiful blue yacht.

We found our first land animals here, in the hotel grounds.

And a few minutes later spotted this guy sunning himself on the sidewalk.

He spotted me 15 feet away, made a U-turn and took off running.

We made it around to the rental dock and went out to see if we could spot some jellyfish floating there, as reported to us by a hotel guest. We could not. :-(

But we did see this interesting toy!

Some youngsters were scooting around the parking lot, shrieking with joy and having a great time. No motors, no batteries, just fun.

I entered the bay myself (briefly). No water resistance was required at this depth.

Or this.

Then the Sting Rays appeared. I hope you can make them out in the photo. We saw hundreds of the little fellas, each about the size of a dinner plate.

Here are the only birds we saw during our entire walk (along with a single pelican I couldn't get on film).

My wife taking the safe route back to the pavement (I walked across the sea grass in my bare feet)

This was farther in from the water but a very pleasing carpet of green and white. Please forgive my camera for not focusing on the foreground foliage!

If  this looks like your kind of fun, come see us some time.

Lots of fun stuff even though not much of it was "nature".

But it was just right for a warm Sunday afternoon in July.

Ah yes, calm down.
