After the Seiko Burger, i've found the Orient Cheese Toastie
found some of these on the web last night, but pics first.
i suppose as Seiko have majority share in Orient we could expect nothing less at some stage. no matter how similar the disc mechanism might be it totally lacks the style of the Burger.
the second hand is fine around the edge, but ruins the open disc look of the dial as it moves around. would be better with a clear disc marked at edge with second 'hand' i think. in fact why is it there when there is a second division ring at the centre?
the discs look like plastic, cheaper, but lacking the finish of the Burger. it does have a date which is more than Burger, but not essential. the burger isnt for wearing at times when you need to know the date or can be worn at all times by people who dont find a date important. the open date ring to the right does add a little something too it though.
the rectangular case, an interesting concept, puts it, i think, firmly in the 70's retro category whereas the Burger is more future than past.
after the several criticisms of the Burger strap this one looks more substantial, but it needs a hands on to clarify.
available in steel or gold tone with blue and red glass/dial/whatever its called.
comes with the Orient standard 21 jewel 40hour reserve auto movement which is similar to the seiko 5 movement. not sophisticated, but a workhorse.
a good effort, but even at 1/4 the price of the Burger, i'll still keep the black beauty anytime.
ideal for a teenager with a bit of watch interest though.
