Asking for your opinions on “special limited edition” watches produced with a high-end brand for an AD? Worth considering?
Hi All (2nd go at this - 1st was via App and landed in the "iOS" section...),
I’m not as informed or knowledgeable as many of you on how to best approach collecting (other than simply following my gut on what I like and what my wallet can handle - read: wife - at a given point in time).
In considering what I might chase next, or in the near future, I wonder whether AD editions in a small production run from one of the high-end brands are worth looking at, and if so, under what circumstances, and what are the important elements to consider.
Looking forward to your thoughts and comments, and I appreciate your collective insight.

Forget the limited edition thing. Most of them are limited editions of limited editions, which kills the concept of limited edition. Do you follow me? ;)
The most important thing is the watch. Its beauty, its uniqueness, its originality, its horological interest, its charm, its soul. How or IF it sings to you. THAT is the most important. Best, Nicolas

I would also lean towards a more limited version, assuming I felt that the limited-ness would not in fact make the watch less desirable in the future...which I guess is a possibility considering everything is subjective and an AD edition may or may not be...
I'm not sure there is a right answer outside of the old "but what you like", however the reality for most of us is that we also need to buy smart.
And if that means buying something more scarce, and which the market values because of that scarcity, then that's a very rational thing to do with the obvious caveat that you actually like the watch. Were there specific watches you were thinking about?
Some watches are limited editions due to necessity, such as with an individual watchmaker. Roger Smith would be one example.
In these cases it's perfectly acceptable and even expected that they'd be produced in limited editions. It would be unrealistic to expect an individual watchmaker to produce watches in large numbers, even if they have a small staff to help. Some larger ma...
